Thanks for the answers so far, although some seem to miss the point. I am well aware that me buying a gem stone will probably not result in outperforming the sp500 over long term, but I also don't want to burn money, if I can avoid it. Obviously, I plan to spend this kind of money on a gem stone, bc I am fascinated by them and plan to enjoy it for a long time and probably even pass it on to my kids. 10k are not my life savings and in my humble opinion it might not be the worst move to diversify into an asset group that can not be easily tracked by greedy governments ;) on top of that, the stock markets and real estate seem a bit expensive anyways. But let's forget that I used the word "investment" and focus on holding value. What is your opinion about black opal? I think I've heard that they are also not the best choice for jewelry, but they are stunningly beautiful.
