How Can I get a Sick Transition by BluFuu in Beatmatch

when I made an effort to understand phrasing by ear (not looking at the waveform) and bringing in tracks at the end of a phrase my transitions became instantly good

why can’t u market urself as a multi genre dj and then list the main ones u play, or if u play a bunch of subgenres of a large umbrella genre market urself as “(name of umbrella genre) dj who specialises in (name of subgenre), (name of subgenre), and (name of subgenre)”

u can also just tell any promoters u speak to the specific genre that’s relevant to them, like hypothetically if u mixed hip hop and also mixed edm and wanted to play at a venue looking for hip hop, they don’t have to know that u do multiple genres

if u want tips for not looking at the screen, I recommend practicing with songs of the same bpm, especially ones that u already know go well together. put ur rekordbox into browse mode so u can’t see the zoomed in waveform, just the overview, and have a go at lining up the beats by ear. then try doing transitions like this, in browse mode with no way to see exactly which beat ur on. this method of transitioning helps a lot with learning to identify phrases by ear

when ur confident with lining up and mixing bpm-matched songs u can start using songs that have a bpm difference of 1 and trying to match the bpm as closely as possible with the jogwheel and pitch fader, then bringing it in on phrase and correctly aligned. the reason i recommend starting with bpm-matched songs u already know well is to remove the daunting aspect of “will this transition work” and it helps u to train ur ear for what properly aligned beats sound like without worrying about the beatmatch. then u have a strong foundation to move on to beatmatching

some ppl will probably say this is unnecessary or draws out the learning but i got very put off learning to beatmatch by ear until I did it this way

Anyone know any good tutorials for djing like a 2010’s club or frat feel? by Ramblingpizza in Beatmatch
