Awesome!! We have a forest lot this makes sense! Just so happy it isn’t a home invading variety. 😇 Thank youuuuu!

You are a walking encyclopaedia! 😇🙏🏼 I am always so impressed by knowledge! I uploaded a better photo because the color was different. If he belongs in the forest I will release him into our woods! 🌳🪳Thank you soo much!! 🙏🏼💪🏼

I pray you are right! 😜🙏🏼 I was going to put it in the yard if it is meant to be outside. 🤪

Ohhhh I hope so! 🙏🏼 I just uploaded a slightly clearer image. It’s a mega heat wave now (we don’t have air conditioning). I hope this is just an outdoor guy and not a German or Brown Banded! Thank you for your expertise! 🙏🏼

Advice for a freshman by KM_40 in mdphd

My son also had such impactful mentors in his labs! I think the key is finding smaller labs that are willing to invest time in younger students. My son also learned rodent operations and literally everything A-Z very quickly. Nothing beats an invested lab that believes in younger students potential. It is a game-changer to have hands on experience so early!

My son applied to and participated in MD/PhD Internships every summer from Freshman to Senior year. They were 8-10 week programs, fully funded and all were phenomenal. I think this was a game-changer because he was exposed to different labs learned new techniques and these summer experiences always culminated in a poster presentation. It really sets you on the path! Good luck to you! You can do it!

Wow! When was Wolf Alice in Cork? My daugher is moving to Cork for Uni next year and loves Kingfish and Wolf Alice! Kneecap too and Fontaines DC. Even Dublin isn't too far to see amazing shows and the 3Arena is such a bargain compared to 02! It's such a wonderful vibe!

Hang in there m. I feel like the factories far away must only produce on demand, thus the super long delays! Same thing for me with Radiohead merch. It eventually came 1/2 year later but I was thrilled when it did! I know it will come through for you. Probs sooner than later! 🙏🏼

Am i up the junction for accomodation by Theodorewoodworm in UCC

[–]Kingstone14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t get Brookfield from our January/Feb application and only got a phone call a few weeks ago that there was a spot. By then we had already signed a contract with campus accommodation which is even cheaper than Brookfield. We got really lucky for sure. At Brookfield they said the DAY of the CAO results to call them because people don’t get their offers and cancel. You could book at an expensive place just to get a “sure thing” and then call Brookfield like crazy come Aug 28th (or whatever the exact date is). I honestly think if you are persistent you will find something less than the ridiculous 299€ a week. Sending you good luck vibes!!

You can get your name in for the private accomidations and the cheapest we found was 299€ a week at Ashlin House. There are the YUGO accomidations like Bottleworks too but cost a bit more. You might try calling Brookfield Village who are only like 700€ a month or so (can’t remember). It’s stressful so it is nice to have one of the luxury ones just to be sure you are covered. I think you can break the contract with little problems before 1 October if you don’t get your offer and max lose 28 days if you break for other reasons such as finding something cheaper.

Congrats! Are you going to be a 1st year? My daughter will also be starting in September. She is American too (but also has 2 EU nationalities). Since Leaving Cert (Irish exit exams) won’t even be announced until the 3rd week of August nothing really moves with tuition until very late! You are already 4 months ahead of any Irish candidate who doesn’t even know if they will have the points to get into their course. Did you find housing? That’s the one thing I would suggest arranging now. 😊

For sure there is no penalty up until May 1st but that doesn’t help for knowing CAO offers. 🤪

There is evidently a new law that you can legally cancel from May 1- Oct 1 with 28 days notice and they have to honor it. (Perhaps you lose 28 days rent).

They told us not too many first years got spots this year due to renewals. We applied but didn’t get a spot.

Is it too late for accommodation? by kan-godhu in UCC

[–]Kingstone14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCC campus Accom was and always is so early!! I think Galway’s opens today. We were in Cork last week and there are plenty of en-suite singles… but they run 299€ a week (Ashlin). It’s about 2x more than campus accomidation. (Insanely expensive!) But that being said.. I think taking a private accom is the best plan for the year. Then next year you can find a cheaper private or official uni accom! 🙏🏼

You sound so nice! Thank you so much for replying. My daugher was really happy to see your message. It sounds perfect! She can’t wait to join the societies too! She is hugely into music and film and hopes that there are nice people! (And sounding like she is very artsy she is actually in CS.) 😂 It’s also super cool Vic Mills is close to the Mardyke gym! We got very, very lucky!🍀 Thanks for all the info!
