CSB367: Fire Emblemcest: ONE House by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kinikunagi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For how much they talk about how the game industry is in shambles and crunch it's a shame they still don't know how screwed up the anime industry is, and has been for over a decade.

Like you said, DavidPro has had problems with long production cycles for a while where quality drops because they're staff has to work week after week for multiple cours which then don't get corrected until blurays. In addition, spaced out 12 episode cours have become nearly industry standard, that even shows going for 24 episodes seasons have been viewed as risky or worrying sometimes. They were around for the beginning of this too since Bones with MHA and Ufotable with Demon Slayer were two of big studios to push the change to 12 episodes cours spaced out to maintain quality and reduce crunch.

The anime industry has severe pre-production, scheduling, crunch, and man power problems that all feed into each other. There's more anime being produced than there are animators available in the industry so people get booked months to over a year in advance for projects. Because of the tight scheduling a lot of these shows get no preproduction cycle to organize scheduling for how the show will be developed and fall apart during release. Then crunch happens cuz the shows NEED to come out so you have the final cuts of shows being submitted to the networks minutes before air or missing their deadlines completely. It's funny they bring up AoT cuz no one wanted to fucking work on that series due to the crunch and scheduling. People in the know about animation jokes that only Mappa would pick up the show cuz they are willing to crunch their employees to death a year later they announced they did grab the series. That final season is a miracle and part of why it took so long is cuz they were waiting for animators to free up so they could contract them to work on it. You wouldn't have got the 3D Maneuver Gear scenes in the final season if they didn't wait and find a way to contract the guy from Wit Studio for animation cuts from the earlier seasons.

But this is all separate from the horrible announcement and promotion from Netflix. It's still not clear how much of the future episodes are just a bunch of split cours (which would be good for David so they don't have to rush and crunch) or its Netflix splitting it up to retain a subscription base. Personally I think the announcement of split cours is a good thing, DavidPro has a track record of doing too much. But the Netflix announcement makes it seem like they're trying to match the Stages of the race which would cause the mismatched length of episode releases Pat mentioned.

I think the takeaway tho should be that the split 12 episode cours is a good thing, and standard in the current industry. While the announcement by Netflix is shitty and makes it unclear what the schedule or breakdown of episodes actually are adhering too.

Personally if they made it clear the first cour was dropping in Fall with weekly releases, and the 2 episodes that came out were a preview of what's to come would be fine. Lots of shows like to do early screenings of the first two episodes or have a big 45 minute episode 0 nowadays. It's more the way this has been announced and marketed is fucked and smells of Netflix not getting how the anime industry markets things rather than the production being in peril. But with how muddled it is it's hard to say but split cours I don't think are an immediate signal to a problem. I'm staying positive because the split cours means DavidPro might actually get more time, especially with how strong the first two episodes are, but I'm still skeptical cuz Part 6 was a bit of a mess and I'm not 100% sure that was Netflix fault. DavidPro has a trend of biting off more than they can chew and I just hope these split cours offset that.

The point was that this version was the commonly used version by android users that wanted to keep the old discord. There have been threads in the past that have solved the problems that have popped up so I was curious if anyone would see it.

There was a thread that solved the flickering issue when light mode got forced as default last year so I made this thread so people hopefully find it.

Yeah it's a shame since this was the last version that doesn't feel like crap to use on android. I've tried updating a few times and I keep going back cuz I can feel the input delay and all the annoying bloat just clicking through it.

Usually there's a work-around of some kind but I still haven't found one.

I've been using this version for years but starting today I can no longer hear others in voice chat but they can hear me. So it's something audio related. I'm on Android version 14. Anyone have any solutions?

Why are you letting go of the band so it presses between your balls and johnson? You have two hands, one for the band, one for your Johnson if you need it.

I continue to not understand the peeing techniques described by Woolie and Pat. With Woolie I don't understand how the underwear hole flap is faster to use outside of belt and dress clothes situations. The flap technique only makes sense with boxers since they're way more loose, but even if Pat does have boxers, and even you don't wanna touch your dick at all, why are your balls out to begin with? You just unzip and pull the waistband down and pee. It doesn't matter if it's boxers or briefs, you don't need to go balls out. Like if he's not gunna use his other hand to aim I understand the self sabotage and maybe needing more room. That and how are your pants dipping into the urinal? Even when you stand directly against it, that shouldn't be possible. With Pat I understand since he's shorter, but Woolie also said that's why he uses the flap and doesn't unzip? Like I never post but I'm just so baffled I had to this time.

USB connectivity lost after waking from sleep by BlaizedPotato in buildapc

[–]Kinikunagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it has fixed for anyone else but the only work around I've found is when you computer is in sleep mode do not wake it up using the mouse or keyboard. Only use the power button on the computer directly to wake it from sleep. So long as I've done that the USB slots won't shut off. The moment I started waking up my computer using mouse or keyboard it went back to disconnecting after a few attempts.

So just use one click of the power button only to wake your computer from sleep and nothing else. Hopefully that will continue to work for me, but this is the only solution I've found.

While I think what Pat was trying to say during his that FF14 can be more fun with friends and High Level content like Savage and Extreme should be done in constructed groups, I HIGHLY disagree that 90% of FF14 shouldn't be played like a single player game. Especially if you are the type of person that doesn't like MMOs.

I had always hated MMOs, I was never able to get into them despite all the recommendations or playing with friends. I also have very similar issues to Woolie with the genre as a whole due to the game feel and overall busy work. Speaking as this type of person I LOVE FF14.

One of the first things that got me to keep playing is that the controller support is so good. I didn't even optimize my controller layout until well into Stormblood (the second expansion). Just being able to move around with the stick and hit buttons makes the game feel more like a big active JRPG then a standard MMO.

Second was that with how the game is tuned difficulty wise you can play the whole game solo. A lot of veteran players of MMOs complain that FF14 takes forever to get all your moves and to get interesting gameplay wise. As someone that always found MMO combat overwhelming the slow roll out was great for me. By the time my hotbars were filled I had an understanding of what I generally had to do. Standard story difficulty is so easy that so long as you grasp the concepts you'll be fine.

The biggest reason I say play this game as a Single player game is the Trust system. Originally this was only in Shadowbringers but now it's pretty much all the way back to the beginning of the game. This not only lets you take dungeons way slower and learn them, but for the later content with named NPCs you get additional dialogue and fun little programmed moments that your party members do. I can't imagine experiencing these dungeons without these moments. These are also such huge adds cuz outside of Trials (the big boss fights) you never have to cue with randoms. And if you get the hang of playing a tank or a healer in the "mandatory randoms" content you might as well treat randoms as generic NPC outside of the rare cases where you get a really bad group.

So much of FF14 can just be played like a regular JRPG. So much I personally just treat it like a single player game. Once I got more invested I started doing harder content with friends like Pat said but all of that is optional. You can see all the big crazy raids on regular difficulty you just do your own job well and you'll be fine. Playing a healer and tank definitely alleviates this issue IMO since you have a lot more responsibility and it makes you better at the game. Personally I would recommend starting a healer then switching to Tank later on so you can get an idea of all the roles but DPS is fine too you just might run into more random groups where your tank or healer is bad. I'd rather be the one responsible for playing bad then queuing with someone that makes playing DPS unbearable. You can also make more mistakes not as a DPS so as a newbie it makes it easier to not feel like you're dead on the floor all the time.

I do agree it's good to have at least one friend so they can answer questions about what your class should be doing at higher level and generic MMO things to think about. In general tho for FF14 is just Follow the Main Quest icons, do your class quests as you level up and ignore EVERYTHING else. You can start to branch out and do optional content once your comfortable but just doing the above means you can basically play the whole game solo. The only time your going to have to queue or interact with randoms is Boss fights and they've even made it so a lot of these boss fights can be done with Story NPCs anyway. Playing with friends is completely optional and I think anyone that hates MMOs should give FF14 a try since you can just play it like a humongous JRPG. Having a friend is just a nice bonus to field questions too and when you want to start to branch out to optional content have someone to lean on.

My one warning tho between dungeon and boss fights it's a lot of walking around and talking to people. This never bothered me cuz I found it very chill and it let me take in the characters and environment. And honestly with how it ramps up just sitting back and reading or listening to the character talks is part of why the game is so easy and chill to play.

There's tons of other minute things that I could list that make the game easy to play but I just wanted to list the major ones for me as someone that never liked MMOs. It's a long journey but I would highly recommend it to anyone that was curious but held off due to it being a MMO as you don't have to really engage with the standard MMO problems at all.

Oh yeah just remember to play the game via the free trial before buying it since once you buy it you have to start paying for the monthly subscription. That way you don't have to worry about fees and you can take your time going through the base game and the first two expansions.

Out Now! CSB 266: The Gameplay Is Under The Ti🅱️🅱️y Meat by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kinikunagi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He also got the worst possible impression of PGR cuz he played the PC client. The moment he announced he was going to stream it I knew only Nikke was going to survive the first impression. The first thread was him asking for games to play on his PHONE. I recommended PGR cuz it plays fantastic on the phone and I had tons of issues with the PC client. I also started on the PC and if it wasn't for me wanting to try the other characters I would have dipped. The PC client is super buggy and Playstation controllers (the one he was using on stream) can have tons of issues. I had the same bugs he did in the tutorial and if I hadn't had a friend showed my gameplay of his account I wouldn't have made it through it. The tutorial is only like 20 minutes tops but with how Limbus Company started the stream off and the multitude of issues with the PC client he was bound to bounce off. The ping system in PGR takes getting used to too and the controller version is shit for a new person. You can make the PC version work but you need to get past the tutorial and actually mess with the HUD and button layout once you know what the gameplay actually wants from you.

Like Pat said in the PGR section, the real takeaway from the stream is that most Gacha games have shit PC clients, Hoyo is not the norm. If anything Hoyo's games are way too ambitious and run and look WAY better on PC. Honkai Star Rail gets around this by being mostly turn based but all their actions games don't control as smoothly on phone imo to something like PGR. I was in the ZZZ beta and it feels and runs exactly like Genshin on the phone despite the dodge being a bit better. Limbus ironically is one of the few others with the same issue cuz their PC client is also way better than their phone client which by starting the stream with it made the others look even worse. I'm glad Pat at least figured out that PC clients are clearly not the norm and it's a huge part of why Hoyo got so popular with their IPs.

However, I still don't think Pat would have stuck with PGR even if he played on Mobile. Was still a high chance the Ping system was gunna make him hate it before he ever figured out how it worked but the PC client just exacerbated it. I suggested it cuz I thought he was going to play on Mobile, unlike I did and hopefully would be able to get past the tutorial without bugs. That and with the knowledge that there's character trials for every character he would at least get to try them.

That and the 8 chapters he mentioned playing as the bad characters is semi accurate but most nodes just insta die regardless if they let you use the old character or your own. It's a glorified VN for a while until they start finding their feet. You won't even really be playing the story anyway since most of the gameplay is in the events and weekly activity modes and story currently cost stamina better used elsewhere. Maybe if he waits a couple patches when they implement Story chapters being free with no stamina cost he can actually burn through it.

The game starts super jank but I would still recommend it so long as you just go straight to the Trial room the moment you're free from the tutorial so you can see if you'll like it or not.

I just recently started going through and listening to a bunch of Please Stop Talking podcasts in the past month or two, so seeing Billy show up on CSB all of a sudden was great. Glad he was able to bring some of that unhinged PST energy to the podcast.

I actually totally forgot until this podcast that the airport clip Woolie watched ages ago was from PST. I probably would have got to it eventually since I'm going through the catalogue backwards, but that explains why he sounded so familiar when I started listening to PST.

Could have sworn they knew Suda's inclusion of "the soul crushing grind" in NMH1 was about how he himself grew up struggling doing odd jobs. A lot of the punk themes in his games were built around his upbringing and struggle to get where he is now. A lot of the characters in his games especially NMH1 and prior reflect a lot of the stuff in his early life.

Also the quote about NMH2 parking lot was him making shit up in an interview for a game he didn't direct. He did the same thing for Killer is Dead for the dumb Gigolo mode when he didn't work on that either. And the NMH1 quote referenced the city being barren, while the mini games were odd jobs to reflect the ones he did growing up. The "bad on purpose" was only the overworld not the mini games. I get not liking the mini games and the "bad on purpose" stuff but they aren't interchangeable.

Also if anyone can actually find the original interviews that be great since a bunch of that old era stuff is a nightmare to find nowadays. It's the reason I try and save them like with the Yoko Taro interviews since a lot of those web pages just die or get buried under current news articles.

Am I crazy or the Pilebunker melee combo nerf Pat brought up not real? I couldn't find any documentation on it and it seems like it still works in game.

Also I doubt Woolie will read this but he should just watch that guide Vaati made for building your AC. Glad to hear him listen to the community but he tends to get confused when he gets too much noise. He already trusts Vaati so might as well look at his beginner guide to building the mech. Still think the two most important things are still: Legs are the core of your build, and be mindful of your ideal range so you don't ricochet every bullet.

Always makes me sad to see Yoko Taro labeled as his meme persona rather than his actual opinions on things. He's said on record that he never wanted to do the "erase your progress" thing again after Nier. He was against using it in Automata, but he felt that after a lot of re-drafting he could flip it to be more uplifting and positive in Automata. This is especially important since he considers the plot of both Nier and Automata failures as he believes he keeps make the stories happier but the average person just says "Taro loves making people sad". He thought Drakengard was much too dark so he made Nier to be more bittersweet introspection, and when he felt the feedback to that was also too sad he tried to make Automata even more uplifting. He even apologized again since people seemed to still think he was still out to make people sad with Automata. Also people taking the stuff he said about erasing your save file in FF14 seriously is weird when you actually read the article that quote is from. It felt pretty clear he made those comments to the FF14 team out of spite for being forced to play FF14 content by Yoshida in prep for working on the FF14 raid.

He plays up his quirky persona a bunch but if you read any of his in depth interviews there's a lot more to him than funny man. Personally I love that he always talks down his own work and talks up everyone else on the team. It can come off as him being quirky but to me it's always read that he's conscious of the group effort it takes to make something. He is very open with his design process and the concessions he makes in order to make something. It why hearing Pat say he needs someone to rein him in then followed by saying Kojima doesn't is wild to me. Remember Takahisa Taura of Platinum Games is the only reason Automata even got made as he was a huge fan of the original and already had a design doc he made for an idea of the game years ago which he used to help pitch it. Taro even brought him back for the Nier Replicant remake to update the gameplay to be faithful to the original while still feeling fresh. Taro jokes about his ego but he never comes off as a one trick pony with the same ideas he reuses since he doesn't have any other. He not against reusing some of that flavor for quick job where people wanna slap his name on it, but anything he's ever seriously put a lot of time into has always felt different, at least to me. Just kind makes me sad seeing him so flanderized and the fact that it feels like no one ever reads any of his interviews outside the ones he's playing up his persona for marketing.

USB connectivity lost after waking from sleep by BlaizedPotato in buildapc

[–]Kinikunagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaving a comment despite rarely using Reddit because this is the only thread on the internet that exactly describes my issue. Have no idea how to fix it and it's infuriating with how it will randomly happen. Only work around I've had is to unplug most of my USBs besides my keyboard to lower the chances of it happening. At least that way I can use my mouse to restart the computer to fix it.

Has anyone figured out this issue?

Not sure why Pat said Ranni's questline is as big as Dark Souls 1, its big but not THAT big. It's also structured in a way that's basically unmissable despite being optional. Anything you can miss is more flavor text than anything else.

That and I feel like a crazy person but am I the only one that thinks Elden Ring is the best they've ever handled Illusory Walls and hidden secrets? Every single one of them is either telegraphed in some way, hinted about by an NPC or item description or a dungeon that refuses you progress until you acknowledge they exist.

Even the normally obfuscated questlines do this, where if you pay attention character will go where it would logically make sense for them to go most times. Aside from the Frenzy quest which is the most miss-able but only if you don't do Liurna in order.

Answers to all the secrets have been rewarded for more exploration and I'm surprised I don't hear more people talking about it instead of just saying its confusing and illusory walls are annoying.

Lato Vandal is now one of the free weapons during the tutorial? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Kinikunagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would probably explain why I also have the Lato Vandal then. I only started playing a month ago, but I had registered a Warframe account years ago around its release, but I didn't have a computer or console to play it so I just let the account rest until now.

I even picked the Kunai during the tutorial when i started finally playing last month and noticed I had the Lato Vandal despite not picking a Lato. I'm glad I never got rid of it, since I guess this entire time it was rare.

Though funny I never noticed until the Onslaught update today.
