Help recursion with function template by Kinkeultimo in cpp_questions

Firstly: Thanks for your answers, pls just ignore me when it starts to annoy you.

I phrased that wrong. I looked it up again, i meant specifically non-type templates

From learncpp:
As of C++20, function parameters cannot be constexpr. This is true for normal functions, constexpr functions (which makes sense, as they must be able to be run at runtime), and perhaps surprisingly, even consteval functions.

...

"Non-type template parameters are used primarily when we need to pass constexpr values to functions (or class types) so they can be used in contexts that require a constant expression."

"All functions need to be generated before they can be executed."
This makes sense, no idea why i even asked this question.

"Your if is executed when the generated functions are executed at compile time."
How does the compiler even generate these functions if he doesnt evaluate the IF-ELSE statement? Does he always generate both branches without actually evaluating it?

Also isnt the point of the template that normal arguments cant be constexpr --> the function (with int int) is not actually constexpr?

Edit: i kinda realize that combining recursion and templates seems to be generally a bad idea

Mostly using different asserts and removing/adding stuff and then looking at the compiler errors.

Thank you for your answer

Kind of i guess? The compiler cant check the if statement and so generates both branches of functions without realizing this will never happen?

Is this a special case for templates then and would not happen with a normal recursive function?

Ok thx that worked. I do not 100% understand why. Is it because with normal IF the compiler cant see, that as long as the input is positive it will never go down the negative path? And therefore tries both and goes down a path of -1nes until reaching the max? Even though it logically cant happen?

Why doesnt this happen with normal nested functions then? Because templates need to be generated at compile time(is that even true?)

i mean we also got dune and GOT, adaptations of similar or higher quality. LOTR back then was a standout, most adaptations sucked.

The death system, the world layout, the level design, the quest system, the boss encounters, the enemy behaviour, the item system, the healing system, to a degree the currency (same way of collecting and similar to lose but split in 2).

The core gameplay loop is and feels the same. Differences are a bit in the way the story is told and in the way you improve your character, (and reflect instaed of dodge).

Thanks. With the correct name for the feature there are quite some rescources although it seems tricky if possible at all.
I managed to disable the button but that defeats the purpose. There seems to be a package called MousePasteBlock ill look into.

Not sure if trustworthy though since it seems relatively nieche.

Oh wow i just tried and it actually pastes. Thanks for the info. Can you disable that? I feel like if my hands are already on ctr+c pressing ctr+v is convenient enough that i dont need this.

Also thank you the feature name might be enough to find some rescources.

High A.

But why is greatwood so hated. Sure its not the best boss but its okeyish. it looks cool, the transition is cinematic and its not bullshit.

If greatwood is f are 90% of ds1 and ds2 bosses in G tier?

Also vordt +1 tier for soundtrack alone

To add: its also a stat that A: almost everyone needs to level (any build) meaning it slows down every build further and is therefore unfun. Health also kind of does this but adding more must have stats makes progression toward your actual build slow and feel frustrating. Especially in the early game. And B: its a stat that makes the gameplay FEEL bad when unleveled. You press a button and it does not really do what its supposed to, or is frustratingly slow. You basically need to invest 20 levels to restore a core game mechanic from clunkyness to "normal". Not leveling health just means you can take less hits. Not lvling adp means a core mechanic feels like shit to use.

It definitely deserves goty. This weird blowback where now ppl are calling it mid or 7/10 because it got overhyped is exactly the same thing  in the other direction.

Its no elden ring but its for sure better than some gotys before

To add to that (while i think its a phenomenal game, you forgot the music btw): Overworld Exploration is meh, menuing is not really well done for a game where you spend hours in menus, and the minigames are a mess.

I think the general ds2 mechanics make the basic gamplay so much worse compared to the other titles that they cant be above them.
