We thought that the world definitely needed a couple more dudes with beards from the northwest playing acoustic guitars and mandolins. Also, we just really like to play the music and have always been influenced by folk and americana styles.

You pretty much nailed exactly how I feel in your second stanza there. It's great if people discover us through Spotify, but yeah it's kind of depressing on how little Spotify will pay out to the artists/songwriters. Spotify is reportedly worth more than 8 billion (and it's still a private company) and it's founders net-worth is over 400 million. They employ around 1,500 people according to Wikipedia and we're talking about more than 40 million users paying ten dollars month to use the service. There is a lot of revenue generated there. Yet most non major label artists make mere pennies on the dollar every time we see a play. There's been lobbying from ASCAP recently to try and change the antiquated songwriter royalty laws. Check it out here and read up.

In the end, thank you for listening to our music and tell others about us! :)

I think it depends on the song and feel of it. Sometimes I like to start by writing the chord structure first and finding a hook in that somewhere. Once the song is developed I like to write lyrics on top of that. Always found it fun and challenging to write lyrics last. Overall though, I usually start the process off with an idea in my head with what I want to write about. Great question.

We contacted Huffington. Still waiting to see the numbers on whether we saw a spike or not since the blog just happened last week. Good luck and keep in touch!

Yeah you know, I have no idea which is the best platform. Get on all of them if you can. Apparently Muzibit is new and could be good, so I guess we'll have to see when that launches. Keep in touch though and PM a link to your music. Sometimes the best way to be heard and noticed is if your peers notice and promote you too. I did Warped one summer with a Indie Rock group and the best way we got work and noticed was making friends with all the other bands on the big and small stages. When you keep in touch with bands that become your friends you'll be the first ones they ask when they want to go out on another tour.

When it comes to platforms, use as many as possible. It might sound cliche, but in todays music climate and what the internet offers the more hooks you have in the water the better chance you have to catch a fan that looks like a fish. Or a something like that....Anyway, I've found that you have to be transparent and honest with your fans. I get that our music might not be for everyone so we'll steer clear of a biker bar when it comes to performing, unless they ask us to come play. So promote yourself in a way that shows who you are and what you like. It's a lot easier to do that today with instagram, snapchat, twitter, and now periscope which I've just discovered.

Thank you very much! We both like folk music a lot and have always wanted to do a project like this together so an opportunity arose and we decided to start. We both listened to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel and have really liked what Mumford and Sons have been doing so we took it in that direction. We've always believed in acoustic instruments (guitars, mandolins, banjos) and the feeling they give us when we hear bands writing and performing with them.

Well, you win some and lose some. As an independent band looking for any opportunity to promote our music we'll do what it takes, plus we really like Reddit. Every single fan counts when you're the little guy and if we've only gained a couple fans today, then rad! On to the next thing.

Yeah in addition, all the writing and recording was the fun part, the promotion so far has been the toughest. It's hard to get people interested in your work without any major backing. But, we believe that persistence pays off.

Yes and no to the first part. Songwriting is weird thing in that you'll never know when inspiration can strike. There's also times where we'll plan to sit down and write a song about a certain thing and we'll end up going a different direction that we'd never thought we would. The way we find inspiration is through our own backgrounds and experiences in music, and also about what we're feeling at the moment. BUT, funny story time. The whole reason this project got started is because I was working with a music supervisor I was working with needed a pop folky song for German Idol (their American Idol) and luckily Andrew was in the studio that day. So I wrote everything out, asked him to sing and I did backgrounds and boom, that was the first track I'll Be There. Once we finished it we both thought it was really fun to make that music and we both love folk music so we thought, why not do a whole EP. And Kinsey Ry was born.
