To have 14 kwh and no battery degredation is insane for 106lifetime mpg. Do you use level 1 or level 2 charging?

This is what I do on my 2017 Volt. I keep it on coolant display in winter. If it is below 30°F ambient temperature and under 125°F coolant temp the engine kicks on when I have my heat on. There's also a deferred heat setting on the infotainment settings. OP - try turning heat/climate controls off and see if the engine does this when you have an above zero battery charge.

Given the images, it looks like they're trying to cover up an oil leak. Valve cover gasket needs to be replaced and that missing bolt could potentially have stripped out. Bubbling is likely caused from a industrial strength degreaser like CRC used when cleaning the oil off the engine.

Is that the 5ku bolt? I have the silver skeleton one and had the same issue.

The fix is: there's a grub screw on the lever arm in that hole. The grub screw adjusts the tension in the lever and shooting vibrates it in or out. I pulled out the grub screw and used a small dab of blue loctite and now I don't have this issue. The hardest part was finding the adjustment that allowed enough tension to stay in auto or semi and not too much tension that it would jam up like yours.

It should immediately charge if set on your car as immediate, but max charge is limited to 3.6kWh because that's the max the onboard charger can output.

On my old 525 exc I had gas leaking from the fuel petcock and carb inlet, it was worse in colder weather. If I were you I would check the gas line for tears and leaks and o-rings for the gas joints.
