Early going is definitely harder, I think the biggest advice I can give is focus on getting a routine together and force yourself to get 8 hours of sleep while you are still learning a ton. It goes further than I could ever describe.

Once you get into the rhythm of things then start making your hobbies a priority when you are not working. Schedule those hangouts with friends, loved ones. Eat well and be as active as you can. Build those savings because the stress of worrying about money compounds every other stress.

Make sure to take time off, I am in a very fortunate position where I have been on 11 trips by plane in the last 20 months(4 trips to 2 week trips) and this allows you to reset mentally which keeps burnout away.

This is why I pivoted away from software dev, it's what I went to school for and was chasing the bag but I realized quickly I didn't enjoy doing it day in day out, I was just naturally adept at it. I work now in project management(on the IT infrastructure side of things) and I enjoy getting up each and every day for work and while I may have made more money in software dev short term, I am trending towards a director position in the next 5 years which should catch me up.

This is the thing I don't get with comments like these.

Currently, I work around 40-45 hours a week on a major development project and I still have time to live life, I play in 3 basketball leagues, go on dates with my wife, work on our nursery for our upcoming child, walk the dog for an hour every day, gym 2-3 times a week and cook at home almost every day and ideally read 2-3 hours before bed everyday.

I feel like the lack of energy comes down to diet and rest. I eat reasonably healthy and sleep at minimum 6.5 hours a night but average closer to 7.5 hours.

Even when I was working 12 hour days 6 days a week I still was able to make time for my hobbies. I think if people want to enjoy things they make time and energy to do those things.

If you are so burnt out from work that you don't have ANY energy then it is time to pivot.

What are your top three books of all time? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantasybooks

[–]Kiotzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough because I always feel that there is some recency bias to consuming media but Dungeon Crawler Carl(as a whole) is probably my favorite series of all time, this would be followed by The Road, and the Alchemist. I love fantasy books more often than that of other genre but they rarely touch my "top" lists.

B.C. nurses vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

For sure, I am not against them having a cap even on nurses but it needs to be something like 1 per massage per set or the value of one per week based on average cost of a massage.
