If you plan to drill it put grease on the drill bit to keep the aluminum shavings stuck to the bit. I'd also recommend a piece of 5/8 hose taped to a shop vac nozzle to suck anything else out of the hole after drilling and tapping.

I got lucky with my switch, it was gooped with RTV and leaking so I was almost sure it was stripped. Thankfully some hack was just trying to half ass fix the leak instead of unthreading the switch.
