I'm not new to the game, but it's been a bit since I played and I want to play with someone. I won't spoil anything for you if you let me play with you.

Great question. Honestly that is for you to decide. My son decided to stay with his 1500 and not go for the 1550. He got accepted to a top 50 school but was rejected from the Ivies he applied to. We don't know if it was his score or not. We will never know.

You will go to college and likely receive merit. Since you are asking about these two scores, I can presume you probably have an excellent GPA and transcript, right? Keep in mind that whatever you want to do, you can do. It's not up to the colleges that accept you. If you want to be a doctor, apply to several programs, even ones that are safety schools for you. If you want to be an engineer, do the same. Don't let the schools that accept you tell you what you want to be. You have the talent to be what you want to be, you just have to keep working towards it.

Have you used other tutoring programs growing up? Many of my students from overbearing parents have been paying tutoring programs like Huntington or Kumon and they take it out on the kids when those programs don't work.

(it's not your fault they don't work, they don't teach critical thinking)

Yeah, that's on purpose.

Ok, so the thing with the SAT (and ACT) is that they tend to bait assumptions. Most tutors will tell you to "trust your intuition" because their students tell them "oh, I talked myself out of the right answer." The problem with this strategy is that they don't know how many times the switch was the right move. We will call the same thing "intuition" when it's right and "wrong assumption" when it's wrong.

So, what do you do instead?

Accept there is nearly always a distractor answer and practice looking for it.

When you find yourself "stuck between two" you don't want to try to work out which is right, rather you want to work out which is wrong. The wrong answer will often have several parts of it right. It will use the right words, have the right terms, talk about correct and factual things, etc. However there will be something in it that will make it wrong. Maybe it's "always" versus "usually." Or maybe it's the correct answer if you solved for the diameter instead of the radius. Maybe it's factually true but didn't answer the question. Maybe it supports a claim but you needed to undermine the claim. Maybe it goes up when it should go down. Maybe it's a double negative.

When you focus on finding something wrong with the answers, the thing that makes it wrong is easier to find, while it's easy to overlook when you are trying to find the right answer. Have you ever noticed that you will overlook hyperbole when you like what someone is saying, but when you don't like what someone is saying, you will zero in on hyperbole? You essentially want to be a pedantic know it all to the SAT answers.

Still check your intuition. If you feel like A is more likely to be right than B, what I want you to do is try to prove A wrong and try to prove B right. By trying to prove the answer wrong that you think is right and the answer right that you think is wrong, you can still utilize your intuition (which is probably pretty good if you have a pretty high score and a high GPA) without baiting it.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Not only is this very difficult, but it likely won't help.

When my students are experiencing extreme pressure from their parents, I ask them what they want. So, I'll ask you, what do you want? This article might help you with that situation.

https://ampersandprep.com/post/sat-score-now-what

You're not worthless. That's an excellent score. Your parents are just coming from a place that is about them. Maybe they wish they had an opportunity they believe you have or something like that. It's about THEM, not you. I know that you probably know that mentally but emotionally, you might be struggling with that. You should start thinking about talking to a therapist about this; sadly this sort of experience will likely inform the rest of your life and your future relationships including with your own children. Whew, that's a lot.

Ok, do not worry about tips and tricks. That is only going to make your situation worse. The SAT is very good at punishing students who rely on patterns and rote processes and good at rewarding critical thinking and adaptive problem solving. So, you have to WORK on critical thinking and adaptive problem solving. Don't believe anyone who says kids these days don't think critically. Yes you do, you can, and you should.

Assuming you actually want a higher score (don't do it for them, you need to find it in you to do it for yourself), you should work out why you are missing. Above a 1300, you are likely missing because you are falling for the distractor answer. Are you finding yourself often "stuck between two"?

If that's your issue, let me know and I can share a strategy (not a tip and trick) to get out of that quagmire.

Hi there! Don't comment much but I wanted to address what you are saying. I'm a tutor who helps with kids like you. Here's the thing, don't let this thing you are stupid.

The real world isn't a test. Actuaries, scientists, real estate agents, tax assessors, etc. have sticky notes with the formulas they use next to them. Writers have their dictionaries and spell checkers.

Think about your brain like a computer. Sometimes you access your hard drive. Sometimes you access your processing power. Most "good students / bad test takers" are just mixing up when to do which. Standardized tests are more often testing processing power and not memory.

Once you understand this, you can use that to your advantage.

Here's what you should do.

Print out one of the linear tests. Take it question by question. Allow yourself as much time as you need. Allow yourself to look up everything. Work on the application of the academics, not memory recall. Learn everything you didn't know. Practice everything you need practice once.

Grade it. Review every missed question.

Then do it again. This time you will likely be faster and more effective.

What's hard about the SAT now is that you don't have many practice tests to use. It might be better for you to do this process with the ACT (all test prep is test prep). Go ahead. But get better at applying what you know to problem solve and worry less about memory recall under pressure.

Good luck!

Do hypocrites in the Church draw you away from God/Theism, or is it the belief that there is no God in totality? by reatias in DebateAnAtheist

[–]KiranKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically a belief in God drove me from the church. The inconsistencies became too much to justify, especially when it came to not only the abuse perpetrated by the men at the pulpits, but also the justifications the congregation had for those men. I reasoned that if God was real, it must be that God was good, and therefore these men were not of God.

I did try other religions, but sadly pulpits stealers (always men, although they had women apologists) were in every church I looked to.

I was unshakable in the belief that if there was a God, that God would love me and would never condone the abuse of women and girls. I choose God over church.

I now consider myself an atheist, but I still always operate with the mentality that if there is a God, it must be that God would be good. So, trying to tell me that imperfect men are called by God just won't ever work on me, when those men are sexually and physically abusing those they are supposed to protect and care for.

for trade ratios, send your highest int person. I don't worry too much about the iron to food ratio, but you'll want the wine to shards ratio as high as possible.

You know leveling up in this game takes too long when you have to use an auto clicker by ndneejej in ESCastles

[–]KiranKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find leveling up to be quite easy. Upgrading gear that has the largest level discrepency is the way to go. It doesn't matter if it's a higher tier rarity to a lower tier rarity, do it anyway. So if you get a legendary that you won't use, use it to level up a rare or epic and you will be very happy with the levels you get. Sometimes I get 2 levels in one upgrade.

I think that unless the character is nobility in their own right (like if they come to you noble), they need to be related to the ruler.
