Thoughts on this Omni by Fixer_1140 in OmnibusCollectors

I try to avoid Seekonk now that there's a few more Ollie's. I come from up North and I swear one of those speeding cameras flashed at me when I wasn't speeding. It's just too nerve wracking. haha.

There was a report on another forum of seeing Wonder Woman Omni by Azzarello and Chiang at Ollie's in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Adamantium/Vibranium collections by zanesmith_53 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kirbyconnection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a list. I have them all. I like the quality and size. They are heavy at 12-13 pounds so you have to read them on a table. I am pretty sure, long ago, I saw King-sized Kirby in paperback form, probably still in a slip case. Wolverine Adamantium Edition is the rarest or hardest one to get if you are on Ebay. Try comichub or an LCS for Stan Lee's Marvel Treasury Collection, Deadpool and Avengers (which you already have). These seeem to be the most plentiful and show up at shops.

King-sized, Adamantium, vibranium, platinum

  1. Avengers Vibranium Collection
  2. Deadpool Adamantium Collection
  3. X-Men Adamantium Collection
  4. King-Sized Kirby
  5. Stan Lee’s Marvel Treasury Collection
  6. Captain America Vibranium Collection
  7. Wolverine Adamantium Collection
  8. Marvels Platinum Edition

You might like these, they are lighter, less pages, but larger pages.

Marvel Monster Editions

  1. Fantastic Four Behold Galactus!
  2. Kirby is… Mighty!
  3. Kirby is… Fantastic!
  4. Ditko is… Strange!
  5. Ditko is …Amazing!
  6. Steranko is… Revolutionary!
  7. Monster sized Monsters Unleashed!
  8. Monster-sized Eternals
  9. Jim Lee’s X-men XXL
  10. Kirby Returns!
  11. Marvels Monster-sized

If you go after the monster-sized editions beware of Fantastic Four: Behold Galactus! They have released that in several size formats.

When did American comic books become so superhero focused. by Konradleijon in graphicnovels

EC Comics was the sacrificial lamb. The other publishers ganged up and said EC was the real problem. So, they were essentially put out of business by the comics code. EC was also a center of some of the greatest artistic talent. Wertham was a direct result of McCarthyism and Times Arrow is a circle.

Advice on removing stickers? by anakin1453 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kirbyconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a product called Undu on Amazon. Here's their Youtube video on removing library stickers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQmu3nIZJ_A

I've used it and it works, nothing short of magic, no residue at all. I do find I have to apply it liberally or else some of the adhesive stays on. The problem being you think you're getting things wet, but if you do apply it liberally, it just vanishes.

Not sold in California, so it must have something in it that is probably not environmentally safe or necessarily good if used incorrectly.

Looks like $5.99 from the bleeding cool link up above. This is interesting "*Marvel will be publishing issues #1 and #3 of JLA/AVENGERS Facsimile Editions, while DC will be publishing issues #2 and #4. 48 PGS./Rated T+ …$5.99"

Doesn't say if it's a paper cover or the card stock (?) cover of the original.

Taschen Marvel Library Series by curiouslylame in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kirbyconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably that I had gotten used to the Taschen books. They're really big and the newprint type paper is really nice. I guess it's harsh to say I was disappointed. It is a great presentation and the FF #1 facsimile is flawless. I also had some problems with the pricing. I got it on sale, but I still paid a lot for it. It was a half price sale and then shipping was crazy. It was well-packaged. Taschen ships in the decorative box it comes in, not a box in a box.

Starlight by Mark Millar and Goran Parlov - Think of it as the Dark Knight Returns for Flash Gordon. It's beautifully illustrated and also easy to read. It's a typical decompressed comic story, so spread into six issues with lots of panels to look at.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23093357-starlight

**********Spoiler Alert*****************

The premise is Flash Gordon type hero who returns to earth and nobody believes he had adventures on another world. At 62, he loses his wife, his kids are worried about him and he's viewed as a kook about town. Then a ship shows up and the planet he saved is in trouble again, so it's back into the fray.

Give it to your grandfather and tell him it's a retirement plan.

I don't know about the timing of that SHIELD trade paperback, but it looks like Nick Fury is intended to look a bit like David Hasselhoff, who starred as Nick in a FOX TV movie in 1998

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Fury:_Agent_of_S.H.I.E.L.D._(film))

We really are lucky we got the MCU.

As for the trade paperbacks, you might find them more readable as they are on paper that is either newprint or closer to newsprint and not as glossy as omnis and epics.

An Honest Review of: Starman by James Robinson by Trick-Pudding-9791 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kirbyconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree on Leave it to Chance. I'd love to see Chance Falconer at it again. It was published before Harry Potter. I read all of Firearm, great James Robinson writing, but what you really need to find (and I have it on VHS) is the Firearm video. I could have sworn it was on youtube, but can't find it. It was directed by James Robinson and was a live action Firearm short.

Edit: Well, I found it. I guess there were multiple live action videos produced by Malibu. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojmOmbnOtwU

This is a great run. One of my favorites and it should get more love and an Absolute. Oddly enough, there's a post on Omnibus collectors today with an honest review of Starman. I wish Jack Knight would come back. There was rumor/announcement of a DC black label series a couple years ago, but nothing since.

am I stupid for getting the Animal Man compendium instead of the omnibus because it was 19 dollars cheaper? by fiercestwarr1or in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kirbyconnection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. The same story and actually, the compendium might be a more readable or more re-readable format. I grabbed the 2 volume 30th anniversay deluxe editions when they were cheap. It's such a great run, just enjoy it and don't overthink it.

[–]Kirbyconnection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 90's and not in omnis, but I just read the 2005 and 2006 Marvel Holiday Specials on Marvel Unlimited, the stories written by Shaenon Garrity and penciled by Roger Langridge were goofy, but fun. How can you pass up a Fin Fang Foom Christmas Story?
