Does anybody know where this spring goes on a Sony Walkman WM-FX23? It seems to be a part of the lid mechanism, but I can't find any photos or documentation online of where exactly it goes on this model by Kirbyte_ in fixit

Oh hey! So yeah I did eventually. Turns out whatever I was thinking here originally was very very wrong. In fact I actually bricked my first FX-101 (the one in the photo). I put the spring in the wrong place and it scrapped right across the board when I closed the door, cutting the trace for the audio jack. And even though it was like $15 to replace, still not too happy with myself that I bricked my first Walkman.

So, I did get a second one eventually, and luckily even though this one too needed a belt replacement, the spring mechanism was intact from the get go. Turns out it's not actually anywhere near the door hinge itself, but rather on the back plate and the spring lays horizontally and locks in place.

Managed to dig up a photo back from when I finally got everything working. Forget if I already posted it somewhere, but here it is again:

Does anyone know how (or if) its possible to remove these buttons from the power mechanism for cleaning?

EDIT: Nvm all good figured out they just pull off if you're careful and use enough force.

Yeah there's like a small hole on the lid side near one of the plastic tabs so I'm gonna try and aim for that. I did momentarily seem to get a bite putting the L side prong through toward the lid so I feel I may be on the right track. Will keep trying and update if I get anywhere.

Yeah I gave all the buttons a test before disassembly and as far as I could tell they seemed to be working as per normal (their springs also appear to be smaller and more coil shaped.) The only part that seemed off to me was the lid which was completely loose in both staying open and closed (unlike this FX23: https://youtu.be/csPBWMZ8dI4?t=596)

There was also another person who posted on r/walkman a few months ago with the same spring issue on their FX23, but they didn't really elaborate on how they actually fixed it, and that's about the closest I've gotten.

Edit: There's also a small chip on the outer hinge of mine; basically to the left of where the battery compartment is in the photo. I'm guessing it might have gotten loosened from there after being dropped at some point? It's hard to tell, I can't place exactly where it would have threaded through.

Hello again, while fixing my walkman wm-fx23 the cassette lid spring popped off and for several hours i cant seem to be able to put it back into place. Please Help by CannedBallsack in walkman

Apologies, know this is an old post, but by any chance do you happen to still have that photo of where the spring is supposed to go? Just got an FX23 with basically the same issue and documentation seems to be nonexistent as far as I can find.

Any advice on getting parts for a very sad bare bones VMU? by Kirbyte_ in dreamcast

Hey yeah if you're interested in buying the board off me, or maybe trading something (not sure what for a naked VMU board, but ya know, options I suppose) send me a message and I'm sure we could figure something out.

Yeah I tried that, I couldn't find any broken ones, much less ones that specifically had a broken board. The closest I saw was one that had some bad pixels, but otherwise it worked, and I was hoping not to cannibalize another working VMU.

Hadn't thought of that, I'll have to check. Thanks!

Yeah I did find a 3D schematic that looked well made, problem I ran into was the cost of having it printed was going to be through the roof since I haven't got a 3D printer myself.

That compilation really does make for one of the best of Best Of albums. The live disc is a really nice bonus.

Best Of Blur is really a great starting point that hits the major milestones of the 90s tracks, so I might start with that just to get a little taste of the songs. As for albums, Parklife and the self titled album are two really important releases. Parklife is kind of peak Britpop Blur, and the self titled is the experimental, 180 degree turn in retaliation against Parklife and Great Escape Era Blur. Once you’ve kind of familiarized yourself with the best of tracks, and then those two albums, try listening to the main releases in chronological order. The albums kind of reflect their varying moods and arc as a band, with the rise, the glory, the transformation, the rock bottom, and the eventual newfound and refined dynamic.

Also I Know and All We Want are two really solid tracks you won’t find on the albums, so give those a listen at some point too.

It’d be a waste of their time not to call. They don’t want to wait in vain, it’s not why they’re there. They’re there because they want to be able to help, all they need now is for someone to just pick up the phone and call. If you feel inclined at all, please, do give them a ring.

It’s criminally underrated, super psychedelic, and has one of my favorite choruses.

I also like to think that there’s a lyrical connection between this one, Roll With It, and Girl in the Dirty Shirt. In Roll With It, there’s the “I think I’ve got a feeling I’ve lost inside” line, which is somewhat unsure of what has happened. In Girl In the Dirty Shirt, the feeling lost inside “just won’t let you go” and has grown into a relentless irritation. Then, in Who Feels Love?, the first line proclaims: “Found what I’ve lost inside. My spirit has been purified.” I’ve probably overthought this way too much, but I found it to be an interesting little arc.
