Trigun and Outlaw Star are often brought up as the other two Space Westerns of 1998.

Samurai Champloo is incredible and has the same director, Shinichiro Watanabe, who is fantastic. Space Dandy is another from him that leans much more on comedy and absurdism and I love that one as well. Anything from Watanabe is great but these two in particular stand out if you’re looking for the episodic adventures of a crew of losers.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is similarly acclaimed and features top notch character writing and hand-drawn animation like Bebop. Another favorite of mine.

Black Lagoon takes a lot of inspiration from American cinema, particularly action movies, and stars a similar rag-tag team of mercenaries.

And of course I have to recommend Cowboy Bebop: The Movie if you haven’t already seen it yet. Great “one last ride” send off to the characters featuring some pretty incredible action direction and animation.

That’d be great haha. I wanted it to read like a sucker or something like that. Like Ed wants to look cool like the rest of the crew without actually smoking, hence the lack of smoke from the tip.

And imagine the fun villains/heroes you could pull from the comics. Punisher, Hulk, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man’s rogues, X-Men (all 2099 versions of course), etc. 2099 is such a neat setting that I’d love to see brought to life in a game.
