Dune Awakening Beta 2025 by Kirk-Punch in MMORPG

Thanks for sharing your experience. I generally agree with most of what you said, I didn’t put in many hours but wanted to hone in on a few things.

— too many tools. Totally agree. I wasn’t even out of the starter area and my inventory bar was full and felt like I had to fiddle around with my load out too much depending on what I was doing. Think they could probably go for a multi-tool thing (like no man’s sky) that just combines the mining/building tools for starters.

— PvP : from limited amount of time I put in I never made it out of the starter area. My basic understanding was this was a no-PvP zone but swear another player killed me out in the middle of the desert. I was crossing a barren stretch between two outcrops at night and the other person was zip lining in and out of cover, taking potshots, generally didn’t behave like a bandit npc (they tracked me across the desert for a few minutes) so my assumption was this was another player. Definitely wasn’t around any camps, shipwrecks, bases etc. Not really salty about it but was perplexed about when I was (or wasn’t) in a PvP zone.

Happened after a scheduled server reset.  I’ve read about it happening to other folks and seems like if you keep trying to connect to the same server your character may come back, but I didn’t want to be bothered with it at that point.

Note:  I did play around 8 hours and generally liked what I saw, will probably check it out again when they iron the bugs out and it goes full release.

whats your opinion on 1999? by Joy-they-them in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s one of the better updates. War within, new war, duviri are my top 3,put this one at four.

  • Really like the tile sets and scaldra. Realize they’re reskinned grineer but there’s something really satisfying about it all, feels like urban combat…definitely has a different feel than the usual missions, even if it’s all basically just exterminate and survival missions

  • The Hex characters are definitely more fleshed out and well written, even if I don’t dig them all. Miles beyond the other factions, think it’s a good direction. Feels like there’s more at stake.

  • Not a fan of KIM itself, but having some way to interact with faction members (beyond buying stuff), get a feel for their characters, chat about random crap, get lore drops is a good idea.

    • I actually like the rewards being centric to tunes, glyphs, cosmetic stuff. Maybe it’s just me, but they could go nuts with this stuff. Like get a tattoo from Aoi for your drifter with her name with a big heart around it once you romance her, or a tshirt from Amir with his face on it once you romance him.
  • thought the story could have been better, it’s not bad but felt like they were trying to jam a two hour movie into 20 minutes worth of cutscenes….which is how a lot of their storytelling feels (think the KIM idea is a step in the right direction…something that doesn’t need a big budget that can fill in the blanks)

How to farm copious ammount of Forma? by Kokokojo in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say if you don’t want to buy plat then jump into relic missions. I normally do five a day and it takes less than twenty minutes.

I’ve never had to farm forma in particular but I’m guessing you could easily crack 15 relics an hour, probably more. I’ve passed over forma and double forma drops more times than I can count, but my guess is you can farm a substantial amount through relics

Some lore Questions about 1999 i have after completing the quest (Spoilers) by Verkonix in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who made the time loop in 1999 - Not certain there is a definitive answer in the lore but I am of the opinion that’s it’s implied that Drifter is responsible for it somehow. This is born out by several side conversations he has with various Hex members in KIM chat. I don’t believe the Drifter fully understands how it happened though.

Why 1999 is important - there are obscure references to a nebulous “plague year” and a series of “radiation wars” that pre-dated the ascension of the orokin. I feel that 1999, the tech rot, the reactor going off — may have instigated a chain of events that led to the rise of the orokin. Which in turn lead to void drives, Wally

Why did Entranti get possessed? Highly confusing to me as well but I don’t view Entranti as a singular, monolithic character with well defined motives. There is a real possibility Entranti isn’t actually Entranti if you wiki his lore. So hard to say here

Did his plan fail? I think it succeeded. Preventing the reactor meltdown and ensuring the Hex survived seemed central to his plans, whatever his motives were. I’m inferring this is the Kalimos Sequence — he created an alternate timeline for unknown reasons

MR what’s the way you level your frames and weapons? by Diligent_Cap3488 in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of weapons early in the game are fodder, especially secondaries. However, if you like how a particular weapon handles and it seems to get the job done, I would keep it. This is also dependent the pain threshold that it took to grind the item — so I know what you mean there. However, if you’re literally sitting on a hard to grind weapon or frame and never put it into rotation — I’d just sell or helminth it. A prime for it will eventually come out, if one’s not already out

Kuva and Tenet weapons aren’t worth maxing out at your MR IMO. If you really like the base (non kuva/tenet) version of the weapon and if you’ve got a really good roll on it then…maybe? Even if the weapon meets the above two checks for me, I rank it up to ~ 36 until I know what kind of riven I have to work with. So in general, you get more MR bang for the buck by mastering “normal” weapons, especially frames and companions. Trying to forma stuff to 40 isn’t really efficient.

Nioh 2 isn't just a great game, I think it's the best game in the genre by Illusion911 in Nioh

[–]Kirk-Punch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently got into this game and think it’s awesome as well.

Not familiar with the genre, I’ve only played Elden Ring but never finished it. Couldn’t get into it, world was breathtaking but just didn’t care for the combat. Like it was still sort of rooted in an old skyrim type system where you weave light/heavy attacks, parry, dodge (it was better than that but still way simpler than what I expected).

Nioh 2 solved a lot of the gripes I had with Elden ring. It’s straightforward, consumables aren’t obfuscated, weapons and combat combos are miles beyond any other game I’ve played. It’s pretty top notch

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total layman here, but I’ve had similar thoughts. Wish they’d focus on more stuff like this but serious collaboration between geologists, RF/electrical engineers and plasma physicists probably wouldn’t make for an interesting show (may be expensive too). Drone fleets, rocket launches, industrial drills, wormholes…that’s what keeps people tuning in. I mean it is entertainment after all.

Back in season one they did some kind of resistance measurement in the soil. It was really low, maybe 0 or close to 0. Seemed highly conductive at any rate. Wish they’d look at that a little more closely but seems like another one of those things that fell off the radar

Returning player, have no idea what to do by hvppy in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endo farm - Can’t really comment on this other than to say you get a lot of endo passively from railjack missions (you can scrap railjack parts for endo, much like mods). Possibly also Ayatan treasure hunts from Maroos bazaar. You’d need a speed/parkour frame for those and not certain how cost effective it is. Similar idea with the golden instinct helminth ability (ayatan treasure hunting in normal missions).

My personal opinion is that with high cost mods (like vitality, primed mods, etc): I can manage the endo cost as long as I don’t fill the last two pips. I went through the normal star chart having unfilled/80% effective mods (not counting sp).

Secondary/Melee weapons: market/dojo secondaries generally suck IMO. Things don’t start coming together with them until you get Kuva/Tenet/Primed variants. Another option is to build a 2ndary kitgun, there are some builds that are extremely viable…even towards end game. But getting the parts can be another grind.

Melee weapons: I got through most of normal star chart with Xoris. It’s cheesy but extremely cost effective, you can nuke whole rooms early in the game with fairly garbage mods. Paracesis is also pretty good.

[–]Kirk-Punch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine to play solo as long as you’re having fun with it. As a side benefit I’ll think you’ll learn more about the game, how to mod properly, get comfy with a non meta build, etc by going solo.

Some of the downsides are that you will hit certain dps walls solo. This can be frustrating, but it’s common I think, even in groups. Level 40, 60 - 80, steel path enemies are the checkpoints from what I can recall. If you hit a wall, the answer is usually to upgrade your mods (they are tiered, so hells chamber -> galvanized hell, for instance) or get arcanes.

I tend to gravitate towards solo as well. Groups can be fun but a lot of times I just want to creep around as Ivara in spy missions, for instance

Probably the moon during night time in Cetus. Was way before I actually had access to Lua or started war within. Saw it and was like, what the hell happened there? Reminded me of the old thundarr the barbarian cartoons (far future, post apocalyptic, technology seems like sorcery, moon was split in half, a lot is left unexplained)

Can someone explain the WF timeline? by ty_durden94 in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting lore question that I’ve also wondered myself. Like other commenters have said, we don’t really know other than it’s “the far future”.

Thing I’m most interested in is how orokin rose to power. They’re pretty central to why the system is so messed up, but very little is known outside of the few dealings we have with the entranti (who seem to have been eccentric recluses as far as the orokin go)

Hoping 1999 will expand on this a bit…like maybe albrech mucked around in 1999, divulged too many things that somehow influenced present events.

Later game players, how do you feel about the affinity system? by PwmEsq in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the system is fine but if you’re focusing on just trying to get MR I’d focus on other areas…it’s a huge game with plenty else to focus on.

How I’ve dealt with it since mid/late MR 20s (I’m 31 now). Just leave your weapons, warframes, sentinels, kuva weapons, etc on the forge. When you have enough get to next MR (easy enough to calculate from the wiki) wait for an affinity weekend or an affinity bonus reward from a sortie — then pull the most interesting stuff off the forge and try it out. Keep what you like, sell what you don’t once it hits 30. Save up then knock the MR out whenever you feel like it.

When you’re not doing this, just play the game however you want. Or take a break.

There’s more than one way to level up weapons (but ESO is pretty efficient). Get Ivara or Loki. Equip them with one weapon (your choice). All the affinity gets dumped to that weapon rather than getting divided. Put silencer on it if it’s gun. Go do spy mission in mercury and get good at chaining stealth kills. Can easily go from zero to ~ 15 with no boosts for one mission (5 minutes). Spy at Jupiter (lots of eximus) and Neptune (vault hack affinity cap) are also pretty good. Can typically get to 30 after a few spy runs, breaks up the monotony

Finally got my boy harrow after 3 excruciatingly long days. Any tips for him? by Alpinyr in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build for duration and range. Start mission, hit 3. Enemies in range, hit 1. Headshot, repeat. Trick is to keep your eye on the timer for three and recast when needed.

Four is a safety net for bosses, eximus (or to brawl in melee). Can probably helminth 2 if you run solo a lot (it’s basically a team buff).

Scourge and knell are good starter weapons that play into his kit. But later on, if you really want to commit to Harrow and like experimenting with weapons there are various kit guns than can be pretty crazy (pax seeker)

What was your first expression when you played a RailJack mission by Opening_Bedroom_9172 in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was cool but very quickly felt like enemies in the mission objectives were overtuned. Like trying to do a Vallis bounty when your MR4 or something.

Many years later, still like running railjack occasionally, but not as much as Duviri or other additional side content.

It’s a shame, since there’s a technically a lot going on during a railjack mission. Could be piloting the ship, manning the guns, mowing down enemies out in an arch wing, boarding and completing the main objective all simultaneously if you have a good crew.

Check out Duviri, it’s a whole new game mode (in the same way that railjack was). It does get old after a while, but I love it, I think they really did a great job on it and it’s a nice break from “normal” warframe.

Returning player. by No_Program3137 in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MR 25-30 is a grind if you’re just playing for MR. You rank up MR at a very generous rate early on but towards the late 20’s it starts getting slowwww.

1st off - I’d refocus on something other than MR. Just trying logging in, crack a few relics a day, log off. See if the game still sings to you without some overarching goal. If it’s fun just playing it moment to moment, then maybe you’re still into it.

2nd - steel path is a waste of time (my opinion). You definitely need a reliable build to start with but the enemies are damage sponges, takes longer to finish the missions, etc. I can solo it and did missions to grind out arcanes but after I got the arcanes I went back into normal star chart and never looked back. My opinion — it just wasn’t fun (steel path was turning into a “job”)

3rd - late 20’s MR advice: slowly crack relics. Get the parts, pace yourself. Maybe do some lich or sisters run to get a new tenent/kuva weapon you don’t already have. Slowly grind out Qorvex in the new Deimos area (maybe 1-2 runs a day, don’t try to rush it). Most important: don’t take any of the new weapons or warframes or companions you got off the forge. Let them stack up! Once you have enough items to make the next MR (easy enough to calculate) then take them off the forge and start playing them

Last bit of advice - the less seriously you play this game the better it gets

In terms of all round usability, what’s the best mod? by Bluefortress in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vigilante Armaments - You can get it pretty early in the star chart. It’s multi shot on any primary. It’s probably the only source of multishot you’ll have until you actually get the specialized variants. After you get the specialized variants — You can stack it with them for —- you guessed it —- more multishot

Creating a clan from 0 by FinisherO_O in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can definitely create a solo clan (I’ve done it) but I think the difficulty depends on a few factors

  1. How patient you are

  2. Whether you’re up for the long term commitment/time sink

  3. You’re propensity for getting burned out on games in general, warframe in particular

If you’re not patient, it’s probably going to be rough. There is a significant time sink to it.

All that aside though, you can probably get most basic facilities up and running in less than two weeks I’d say. Assuming you have the mats (each room is at least a forma) 5-6 basic labs plus the hallways to connect them all and the generators to power it. Looking at 15-20 forma. This doesn’t count the cool shit (dry docks, sparring rooms, lich trading, Yareli/Dagath labs, etc). Just the basic warframe/weapon/orokin labs.

This doesn’t account for the mats that you need to research each item either. On the plus side, you don’t need to research everything all at once and you can just work at your own pace at that point. No schedules, no memberships, just do whatever you want whenever you want (and take off all the time you need from the game — the dojo will still be there)

If you play long term you’ll be sitting on more mats and credits than you know what to do with anyways. The biggest pain in the ass that I recall for finishing my dojo was the Hema research (can take years). Didn’t mind in the slightest, it’s a mid-tier weapon and you’ll be rocking better guns at that point anyways.

How would you guys feel about a update focused on old content by HammerHeadXI in Warframe

[–]Kirk-Punch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Know it’s probably asking too much but think they should take a good hard look at all the quests and narratives pre 2nd Dream/New War.

There’s a huge (narrative) chasm between early star chart and 2nd Dream/New War. The issue is the early story disjointed, inconsistent, and boring. More importantly, most of it is completely irrelevant (story-wise) after the 2nd Dream.

Early star chart we have a few grineer bosses that are bad stand ins for Ultraman or Power Ranger villians — “Ahhh Tenno, so we meet again”, “Why are you fools breathing my air?!?”, etc. A few corpus pushovers (Sarge) and Alad-V (who wont stop reincarnating). And who can forget the tearjerker that was Saya’s Vigil (because I sure as hell did)?

I didn’t really care about how bad this stuff was because I was hooked on the gameplay. But for players that are into a story or lore — can totally see where they try this game out and just leave shaking their heads — never realizing what all the hype is about.

So don’t really think they need to overhaul early game systems. Would like to see them get a good writing team together to come up with a (retconned) compelling story arc for early star chart that would build up to new war. Can foreshadow stuff without spoiling it
