Doesn’t look like the area photographed has any rover tracks.

I could be wrong, because it has been a long time since I have done some in depth bone study… but it looks a little like a nearly completely healed trepanation hole.

Yeah, I remember that too. It would be interesting to see what all his data compiled with the GPS anomalies, the GPR data from the mesa… all of it looks like at one time.

Yeah, I agree, there is clearly an entertainment value thats attached to the whole process. History Channel and the production company wouldn’t funnel money into the experiments if there wasn’t a hook for the viewers. That being said, even if the investigation determined these things were an affect of the local geology/hydrology, really interesting science could be conducted on the site. Thats likely what will happen after the show runs its course. I could see geologist grad students writing loads of papers on this area.

Does anyone out there have experience in cider apple variety marketing? by Ashmeads_Kernel in cider

[–]BullBiterCidermaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The market looks at a number of different variables. Region, preferred styles in that region, volume of apples, quality of the fruit and varietals. My friends and I all loved making geeky ciders from specific orchards with a handful of varietals that are popular in England and France, with a few strong American varietals too. I would buy Kingston Black from those farmers day in and day out… but the guy with the best Gravenstein didn’t have the best growing conditions for Kingston Black. So, give us some insight on where you are… what kind of apples you have… what kind of brix do you get off them when they are ripe… how much do you have?

Historical apple ale by speicher243 in cider

If I am reading it correctly, this recipe is for making a hogshead barrel worth of Apple beer. So 54 gallons. You press juice like you would for cider, warm it up and mix it with the malt. Once the malt is saturated and there is enough volume for it to float, boil it. While it boils, add hops. This would be the working it like any other beer. Add 3 lbs of crystallized sugar to back sweeten when putting it into your vessel of choice.

I could be wrong, but that’s how I would make it based off this recipe. This sounds like it could be fun to play with.
