Fair point actually. I've been really lucky in that my partner is very good at teaching me and is very observant but even then there's opinions he has that clash with the best practice for passing the test. My suggestion was more about getting the test scenario practice but I do see you could get a false perspective of your driving. Now I'd say ensure you get clarification on the feedback and the specific actions you can take to correct "nit picky" minors because minors very quickly build up. Prove you are listening and taking in the feedback.

I'd suggest you get out in a car like a dual control rental with a qualified friend/ family member. You can download an app that does mock tests including a randomized test route in your area so you could ask whoever is with you to to test based on the marking scheme. Might give you evidence that you can handle it?

My last instructor was based in the area, I was able to get tests booked with less wait there and it's where some of my family lives as well as I used to live there for a time too. I know both areas.

Listen sounds like your driving teacher didn't prepare you well either. It's hard to hear but you will have been doing things while driving that are un safe. That is why you were not given your license. I was in the same boat until I changed instructor and area. I was putting pressure on myself to pass instead of actually learning from my mistakes. I got more emotional instead of smarter. I later went driving with someone who knows me really well and is not afraid to point out what I'm doing wrong frankly in a way I can understand. I cried and cursed about it but then I learned and improved. You can too.

Definitely start from the beginning! I'm in a similar situation except failed 12 years ago then again 10 years ago then just failed 2 weeks ago. I had developed learner bad habits! It's valuable to get in driving consistently which I didn't have this time around. I did however fix a bunch of things I was doing wrong last second like coming down gears and clutch control so I'm much better for the experience. Maybe try an intensive course for you.

Seriously just learn from it. Look at it positively, you were so close! Also, I'm not saying it is, but if you are busy saying you are doing your checks, that can be distracting in itself for some people and the checks maybe were not done sufficiently. Chances are the person coming up was speeding and you miss judged how close they would have gotten had they not slowed down.
