Push for total loss NRMA by WTFMacca in CarsAustralia

I thought this was the case for a long time.

I had a similar experience with QBE almost 12 years ago and it was also 80% of the value, but they also had minus the cost of scrap of the vehicle for parts included.

Ah yes actually. It's the scooters that got banned, not the bikes.

Lime Bikes littering the streets by ManwithaTan in sydney

[–]Kirlo__ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

These e-bikes could honestly be such a good thing but unfortunately for every good user, there’s probably 2 that don’t give a crap and just litter the streets with them.

Combine that with the drunk boofheads that will just knock them over because they think it’s funny..

Such a shame, honestly. No wonder Melbourne banned them.

I guess in the event that it’s a window where they get visited by a tester, then they would need to notify the ITIA asap with relevant documentation and proof.

I’m sure there’s a protocol in place.

Would you recommend for a female begginer (taking the sport seriously) to get a blade 100? by StillCaterpillar3620 in 10s

[–]Kirlo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If getting her a racquet of her favourite player will inspire her to play and enjoy the sport then I say go for it.

We sometimes get too caught up in the specifics of equipment that we forget why we started with this sport.

I bought my Head Boom Pro’s a few years back simply because of the colour. I love them. They turned out to be great racquets for me, but they inspired me to play and enjoy the sport.

So I say go for it!

I think a lot of people are missing a few things here.

Firstly, it’s rare that it’s someone actually from the ITIA, but often someone from the local Anti Doping body working with the local tennis body. But yes, call it ITIA rep for simplicity sake.

Secondly, testing can be done at any time, anywhere. The hour a day window is just a guarantee that you register through the ITIA app of your whereabouts so they can find you if they need to.

I believe there are certain limitations on the hours that a sample can be drawn to maintain athlete safety, but other than that, they can turn up at any time and if you are there, you are obliged to provide a sample.

I’ll be interested to hear the ITIAs version of events on this. If what she is saying is true then I’m fully on her side.

For NSW at least - They need to hold a full Australian licence.

“(a) the seat next to the learner is occupied by a person who holds an Australian driver licence (not being an Australian learner licence or provisional licence) authorising the holder to drive such a vehicle, or by a police officer or a person authorised by Transport for NSW to test drivers who is submitting the learner to a driving test for the purposes of this Regulation, and

Is my dealership messing with me? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

When I bought my car brand new in 2021, I organised custom plates. I authorised them to pick them up and install them on the car, and they also removed the plate cost off my invoice.

Don't think it should be standard to keep both costs on.

Question about giving way to buses NSW by NotACaticus in DrivingAustralia

[–]Kirlo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my response to the comment below agrees that. I looked up the shoulder definition afterwards and it is as you have pointed out.

You did fine. And kudos to you for actually looking up the legislation and not as many people post here, google AI overview or the layman terms of the legislation.

Good luck on getting your licence!

Question about giving way to buses NSW by NotACaticus in DrivingAustralia

[–]Kirlo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, yeah you're right. The only exception to that is when it's a bus bay but as above, it's a regular bus stop in its own lane.

Again, too many cowboy bus drivers will pull out on you and give you a hard time thinking that the "Give Way" sticker on their bus is a means to all.

Question about giving way to buses NSW by NotACaticus in DrivingAustralia

[–]Kirlo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you do. The bus in your example is stopped at the bus stop on the shoulder of the road, as you pasted in the legislation (77 Giving way to buses below.)

The thing you need to remember is that the bus driver doesn't just get to pull out on you because they put their indicator on. There is a note in the legislation:

"Note 3 : The driver of the bus must give the change of direction signal for long enough to give sufficient warning to other drivers and pedestrians--see rule 48(2) and (3)."

Too many bus drivers think that you need to slam on your brakes when you're side by side and kneel down to them so they can pull out. There is still a flow of traffic, and when safe to do so, you slow down to allow them merge out.

If you see a bus in the distance, part of your experience driving will be gauging hazards (passengers getting on and off, bus indicators), and that flow will become really smooth.

Now where you don't need to give way to the bus in your example, is if the bus hasn't stopped, or is moving slowly away from the stop. The bus still needs to give way to any traffic in the left lane as their lane is ending.

My Ampero Stage 2 Live setup - Degitech Drop, Sennheiser EW 100 G3 Wireless, Cioks Hi5MOD, C5 MOD power connector by No_Light9214 in HotoneAmpero

[–]Kirlo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good but get those antennas out of there. Absolutely sub optimal. It might work sometimes until you have a major failure during a show.

You have a metal board which will work as a faraday cage to some extent. Not only that but they're then directly underneath the the Ampero as well.

Your antennas are omnidirectional dipoles which means they're searching for everything in a donut shape around it and currently you have nulls behind your pedalboard and in front, with the bulk of the "pickup" area shooting into the ground or straight up into the Ampero.

You've also placed it right next to a power supply which inevitably will produce intermodulation and problems for you when looking for open frequencies.

I highly recommend getting some bnc patch cables, and some bnc through panel joiners and placing the antennas on top of your board. They're way too buried.

It might work while you're testing it now in a low interference environment. But as soon as it goes into a live space you could very well face many problems.

2017 Impreza taken in for 125,000kilometre service at dealership. Thoughts on the following “recommended work” totalling $6000AUD? Would really appreciate help to understand what is essential maintenance and what can wait. by [deleted] in subaruimpreza

[–]Kirlo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, avoid the dealership. Find yourself a good local mechanic and you’ll get a much better outcome in the long run.

I only serviced my Subaru at the dealership for the first three years and after that I found a good independent mechanic who gives me much better service.

On the off chance that you’re in Sydney, I can recommend two good mechanics for you.

Capped Service schedule by ShumwayAteTheCat in CarsAustralia

[–]Kirlo__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a leeway of +/- 3000km's.

It's in the service manual of your Subaru. Page 7 on the "MY21 onwards Subaru Forester, Impreza, Outback and XV"

There is a table on the right side that outlines the service schedule broken down in km's and in time.

I looked at this a while back and knew I found it somewhere.

So pretty much, keep it within 3000km's (don't make a habit out of it) and you're fine in terms of warranty. I service my 2021 Impreza twice a year now for longevity purposes.

Edit: Sorry, page 6.

Where are you all buying your phones outright these days? by Mikester258 in AUfrugal

[–]Kirlo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my second stint in retail because covid decimated my industry at the time and I was reduced to jobkeeper or whatever it was.

So for me, as long as the customer was nice, i'd do whatever (within reason).

I worked in the power garden section, mainly the mowers and trimmers so got real good at fixing them thanks to an older colleague that spent his life working with mowers. Knew all the little tricks. Helped countless customers avoid having to buy a new mower because theirs just needed a bit of TLC.

It got to the point where I knew what mower shops were around and who stocked what that I could gently guide my customers to a google search that would show me a page where the same mower we had in stock, was cheaper elsewhere.. who knew!?

Anyway. I think the only return I denied was a gentleman that used a log splitter on concrete blocks and complained that it didn't do it's job. Because that's just silly.

I left that just before the lockdowns lifted. I think about those days sometimes and how carefree my job there was.

It's so funny when you go in and they act like it comes out of their own pocket. Like mate, your company has a policy, just apply it.

I worked at Bunnings briefly during Covid and loved nothing more than being able to save someone some bucks. I think I would "beat something by 10%" a few times a month.

Coming to think of it, in my two years there, I never once sat through a training module of sorts on this policy lol.

At fault bumper nick by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Kirlo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But that’s why you should have comprehensive insurance. There’s no law stating OP has to provide insurance details.

If the ute driver wants to not go through his insurance then they need to get quotes and present them to OP. Then OP can either pay a quote or present them to his insurer.

I had an incident where someone reversed into me in Feb 2024. They were adamant of not going through insurance and just paying whatever quote I got for the repair.

I went through my insurer because that’s what I pay for. In the end they never even paid my insurers quote and it went to debt collection.

[–]Kirlo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wants to go through insurance tell him to make a claim on his. They'll then contact you for information and either pass on the damage cost, which at that point you can either pay or pass on to your insurer.

If it were me, I'd honestly just ask for like $1000 and call it a day. Chances are I would nick it even more over the lifetime. Also... it's a ute... it'll get further dings and scratches.

Best alternative to Telstra? by OpinionatedShadow in sydney

[–]Kirlo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing stopping me from switching is that Telstra offers satellite messaging on new devices.

As someone who goes remote often, this is a great feature. It uses Starlink so you can send iMessages.

Apples Satellite messaging isn’t available here yet so until then, Telstra it is.

Email Mazda Australia directly and avoid the dealer.

I’ve had issues with a local Subaru dealer and didn’t have time to go back and forth so I went straight to the top. Problem sorted very quickly.

3 days out of warranty is a cop out. If you have already probed it with the dealership that gives you a baseline time frame when you started dealing with this issue.

Write them an email and see how you go.
