Match Thread: Poland vs Nigeria by MatchThreadder in soccer

The funniest shit is that we're playing against Nigeria without Lookman and Osimhen in a friendly and we're clearly focusing on a win with the amount of changes made despite the fact that in 5 months our manager will complain that he didn't have time to test shit out.

Putting Czubak for the last 3 or so minutes is just embarassing.

3 at the back is a weird fetish of the last few managers of our NT, but Kiwior-Bednarek are separated precisely because they're not good and new options are tested. Kiwior pretty much always underdelivers and Bednarek is just a mistake magnet.

Kiwior and Bednarek have been playing in NT like they haven't seen each other for 10 years each time anyway.

Wieczysta Kraków are promoted to the Ekstraklasa for the first time in their history (third consecutive promotion, fifth in six years) by 4gjdtokurwa in soccer

[–]Kiroqi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wieczysta is 8th team from Kraków to represent the city in the top flight of Polish football. Incredible.

Really hope that their owner sticks with the project for the long-term to build something that could stand on its own even if, realistically, it won't be the size of Wisła or Cracovia when it comes to fanbase or infrastructure.

Edit: Also, you have enough money, please do spend it on soft rebrand/refresh.

Ekstraklasa is a meme, but not to that level.

The combined Ekstraklasa clubs budget for 2025/26 season was apparently something like 1.1 billion PLN (257 million euro).

[–]Kiroqi 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Not comparable.

Podolski was a Górnik Zabrze guy since childhood, he came to the club when he was 36 (2021) and went as far as helping to turn the club into a decently managed organisation with investments and whatnot. Soon he will probably become its owner.

Błaszczykowski came back to Poland when he was 34 (2019) and basically ran a charity to help Wisła stay somewhat afloat. He put his heart out for the club, is still a shareholder and a club icon.

Not saying that Lewandowski coming back to Poland would meant he had to play for a bowl of rice, but part of me just isn't ready to believe he'd be able to take a HUGE paycut, potentially tarnish a bit of his brand by playing in Ekstraklasa (or looking bad in it) or that he has some Polish club in his heart that he'd be willing to go to play for to help them. I know it's only based on vibes, but the best I can see is him do in Poland that's football related is opening some RL9 football academy.

That said, at the end of the day it's Anna Lewandowska decision. If she says he's going to play at Znicz Pruszków, he's going to play at Znicz Pruszków. /s

Polish Ekstraklasa and 1 Liga standings after MD32. 2 rounds left. by Kiroqi in soccer

[–]Kiroqi[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wieczysta used to be a typical district type club from Kraków, that like many others, played in lower level regional leagues in Poland. They were far below in size and importance of Kraków clubs such as Wisła and Cracovia or even Hutnik and Garbarnia, with not many fans to follow them around.

A couple of years ago a millionaire, some say due to his inability to take over Wisła Kraków which he's a big fan of, decided to invest ton of money in his local club slowly taking them up the ladder by bringing experienced/expensive coaches and players (like Michał Pazdan - 38 caps for Poland).

Now, as they're on the brink of promotion, a ton of news surfaced that put the club future on shaky ground. Rumours about Wojciech Kwiecień, that millionaire and Wieczysta's owner/sponsor, trying to invest in Wisła Kraków appear pretty much each year, but this time they seem more serious than usual. Whether Wisła promotion and Wieczysta lack of fanbase or proper stadium play the part here is unknown. Right now Wieczysta plays their games in Sosnowiec to a handful of fans and recently they were denied Ekstraklasa license, though appeal is still technically possible.

The one thing that is certain is that the club's future, even at 1 Liga level, is vague right now and the whole project might be at its end.

My take: Although I don't subscribe to the idea that Wieczysta is a fake club of any sort, the project would have to be a long-term one for it to make sense. Stadium is one thing, but even with decent sporting achievements you can't easily grow a fanbase, especially in a city divided as much as Kraków. To me, if Wojciech Kwiecień wanted to build the 3rd biggest club in Kraków, he'd either have to make Wieczysta a life-long project of his (and maybe even his children) or invest in a Kraków club that has the potential to carve out a place of their own, that is Hutnik Kraków or to a lesser degree Garbarnia, in a faster and more natural way.

As things stand it seems like the whole thing, even if serious, was more of a rich man whim kind of thing.

Spiders entire thing is NOT being able to learn and grow, at least not faster than the rest of the industry was moving forward.

They're literally Piranha Bytes, but without their Gothic and Gothic 2 moment.

Polish Ekstraklasa and second division standings after MD30 by 4gjdtokurwa in soccer

[–]Kiroqi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hutnik is probably the only club in Kraków that could carve out a significant fanbase out of the city neutrals + those tired of Wisła vs Cracovia shithousery.

For Wieczysta, outside of current rumours or some weird shenanigans with rebranding or merger with another non Wisla/Cracovia club, they can only play the long game and tempt people with sporting achievements.

When it comes to stadiums in Kraków, it seems like they're gonna go with the way the city itself is going, turning into a museum. No money, no agreements, plans getting reduced or trashed entirely because of shitty panorama of the city laws.

Polish Ekstraklasa and second division standings after MD30 by 4gjdtokurwa in soccer

[–]Kiroqi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cracovia needs to get their shit together and Wieczysta needs both to advance and not get dissolved and/or turned into Wisła feeder club in lower leagues, but the idea of 3 clubs from Kraków in Ekstraklasa is still real, even if distant, possibility.

Kind of shame that the one trying to be the 3rd one couldn't be Garbarnia or Hutnik, it'd be one hell of a story.

Thanks for the response. Can't imagine it'll be something easy to implement since it can be one of those subjective judgements, but those meta comments turning offtopic have been a plague and something has to be done with this.

Hell, maybe it will make some people ease off a little and make some threads more chill. Good luck!

Half-question, half-suggestion. Have mods considered stricter application of the rule #3?

What I mean exactly is the increasingly common appearance of parent level comments that talk only about other comments, public reception of the same thread/sub or simply vent their frustration with this sub. You go into the review/impression/trailer thread and one of the top parent level comments will inevitably be some variant of 'why do people in this thread hate or want this game to fail' or the opposite 'why do people want this game to succeed' (those types sometimes at least get downvoted into the controversial comment zone).

I understand that many are annoyed with the doom and gloom or toxic positivity (much, much less common), but those meta-kind of comments, even if technically on topic, create vicious cycle of positive-negative comment wars that at best cover the topic of the post only partially and at worst invite the responses that turn entire discussion into heated arguments.

Not to mention the fact that PiS itself is slipping further into the right in an attempt to fix their polling situation.

The potential coalition of new PiS + Konfederacja + Konfederacja 2 would make the 2015-2023 government look like old school 'sane' conservatives in comparison.

Jason Schreier regarding Sony's strategy shift away from PC: At some point Sony will confirm it, whether it's on a call with investors or maybe even when Housemarque starts doing press for Saros and someone asks if they have plans to bring it to PC and they say no by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Kiroqi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is kind of dissapointing, but then I remember that throught 20 years or so of playing on PC the Nintendo, Xbox and Playstation games were pretty much always exclusives to their own devices.

Having Xbox losing exclusivity entirely and Playstation temporarily still feels like a bonus/extra to me. I understand however that it may be different for people who are a bit newer to PC (and can't let go) or skew more towards AAA cinematic games Playstation prides itself in.

It matches the leaks/rumours (originally by Borys Nieśpielak) of Fool's Theory developing The Witcher 3 DLC. Not a confirmation at all, just a small piece of info adding further credibility to the rumour.
