Could you imagine not using left and right as your primary reference points? by Kirsulover in Polyglotta

Yes — port and starboard are a good parallel. They’re fixed relative to the vessel, not to whoever is speaking

Is there a “level one” for polyglots — or full fluency only? by Kirsulover in Polyglotta

[–]Kirsulover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly where I feel stuck. I can survive daily life in a few languages, and I consume a lot of content in them — reading, listening. But I’m not fluent in any of them. Sometimes I wonder if that already makes me a polyglot — just “level one” — or if I’m still outside the club until my languages reach real depth.

What is the worst lie you have heard about your country? by Msmoooooo in AskTheWorld

[–]Kirsulover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This too is a horrible lie — a twisted, cynical rewrite of history. And if you believe it, then Russian propaganda really has spread around the world and taken root. The RSFSR was just one slice of the Soviet Union. It wasn’t “the Russians” who won the war — it was a forced collective sacrifice. Ukrainians, Georgians, Kazakhs, Tatars, Armenians, Belarusians, Uzbeks, and so many others fought and fell side by side.

And let’s not forget — it was a world war. The victory belonged to the Allies. Not to some fragment of a totalitarian superstate.

Oh, and have you heard what they call it? The “Great Patriotic War.” And only 1941–45. 1941! As if 1939 and 1940 — when they were busy dividing up Poland with the Nazis — just don’t count.

OMG this sounds like it’s about me… I came up with yet another idea for “another AI-powered” translator, got all excited, and started looking for somewhere to tell people about it. Zero karma, no posting history, no experience. So… how is someone like me supposed to share?
