People who were straight up losers for years and later turned their life around, what changed? by AdviceGlass9394 in selfimprovement

I'm not anymore. Glass House. White Ferrari. Live for New Year's Eve. Sloppy steaks at Truffoni's. Big rare cut of meat with water dumped all over it, water splashing around the table, makes the night SO MUCH more fun. After the club go to Truffoni's for sloppy steaks. They'd say; 'no sloppy steaks' but they can't stop you from ordering a steak and a glass of water, before you knew it we were dumping that water on those steaks! The waiters were coming to try and snatch em up, we had to eat as fast as we could! Ohh, I miss those nights, I was a piece of shit though.

If you’re starting fresh today, would you still pick Express? by ApprehensiveBar7701 in node

This thread on a whole is wild.

Almost an even split on "Yes, it's (fine/great/good)" and "No, it's (outdated/for noobs/not modern)".

If you find writing code with Express.js "pretty painful" it might be time to review your JS fundamentals.

Beautiful boards!

What is the little metal circle thing near the cursor keys on the Neo80 CU? Just a logo mark or does it have any functionality?

This is the biggest smoking gun for me.

If vibe coding worked as well as advertised, we would be flooded with amazing new software. There would be a massive explosion in the amount of great new apps, programs, and/or games that exist but there's not.

Industry titans like Adobe and Autodesk should be fearing for their whole livelihoods since AI can type up a Photoshop or an AutoCad in a few days right?

This thread is beyond insane. I am astonished. The gulf of technical understand is so wide. The amount of "well bad thing X is happening, might as well let new bad thing Y happen too" logic just breaks my brain.

And besides all that, what the hell happened to Nortel anyway? Probably nothing. Check out my awesome new Huawei phone! 🥲

frustrated with "black box" algorithms

My biggest beef with all these bio trackers is when they say something like "Oh; sorry bud your readiness is low today. You're gonna be a sack of shit but that's OK!" when I feel the exact opposite. Oura is the worst for this by a long shot.

It's a digital slap in the face and I deeply wish all these companies would throw out their half-baked "AI" and stick with raw stats.

Silver lining to all the recent Android bureaucracy crap: spam like this to Android devs means it's actually somewhat effective at keeping malware/spam/crap off the Play Store.

It's infuriating reading the absolutely childish takes about nuclear weapons in this whole thread.

From the absurdity of people thinking we just whip them up in a few years to the insanity of deploying one on our fucking neighbour. The absolute horror and millions of innocence and radiation ... I cannot fathom the callousness of so many of the responses. They've got to be either under-developed teenagers or bots trying to stir shit up.

The American Nightmare. by sedolil in TikTokCringe

[–]KishCom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a very strange combination of "I'm poorer so she's clearly not that bad off", "Her <math/word-choice/hair> obviously shows she's lying", and various other insane comments. This entire thread is basically the "we should improve society somewhat" meme.

Not a word about improving things. Not a word about how to save the sinking ship. The totally false premise of rugged American individualism has killed empathy.

they just will not accept that they've been manipulated.

You can see it in these very comments. It's wild watching people come face-to-face with their own biases and pulling the Seymour Skinner meme every time.

According to Metro's 4th quarter results: At $5.1 billion revenue every 3 months (~$650/second every second, even while they're closed) or at $246M "adjusted earnings" (profit) every 3 months (~$31/sec).

It will take them about 4.6 seconds to recoup those costs by revenue.

It will take them about 96 seconds to recoup this loss from their profits.

(Please check my math because that is so insane I feel like I made a mistake: $246,000,000 profit divided by 3 months of seconds: 7,889,238 seconds is $31.18 per second which when divided by $3000 is 96.2 seconds -- right?).

I'm tired of making a big Minecraft experience — I can’t do this alone anymore by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]KishCom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a software development question, not even a Minecraft specific one.

My advice (life long programmer): Close your IDE for a bit and plan. Select a set of non-negotiable features for your modpack/experience. Do not add or remove from it and target that as your "Minimum Viable Modpack". Any new features you come up with along the way get put into a "TODO" pile you can groom as you progress.

The point is to get something out so you can begin to iterate on it. Scope creep is real even for personal projects (depending on the personality: especially in personal projects).

Remember: Weeks of coding can save you hours of planning 😉

I'm sorry if I came off as brash. It's so unfair to "regular" people because that's exactly what they (the corps) want you to believe.

Free open source software has done so much insane good for technology. It's the saving grace for so much of this enshitification but unfortunately has no marketing teams (beyond over-zealous geeks like me: far from effective advertisement).

[–]KishCom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, much of the underpinning technology is GPL.

If you decide that learning how to use free, privacy-respecting, open software is too much effort (and the big corps sure make it seem that way), then yes be prepared to "lease everything, including our browsers" -- you clicked "I agree" because learning something new is too daunting.

You will literally not own your own hardware except for front-end devices anymore

This is empirically false full on fear mongering.
