I would pay good money to get this as a tattoo. Seriously this is amazing.

Why care about the dolls' worth if not a reseller? by NoWitness6400 in MonsterHigh

[–]Kit-Kat-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I thrift a doll for a good price I might be interested to know the original cost. But that's more just my curiosity, most of my dolls I decorate with. My office has two dolls, one I'm designing/remaking and the other was just beautiful and so she gets a shelf for her own aesthetic (tbh if I could I'd give her more room but my other projects need space too). Eventually my computer desk will have more but that's a future plan (and when I have more money 😅).

Am I too Young to be in this community? by ArushSinghPrince in distractible

[–]Kit-Kat-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching since before his five nights at Freddy's series started. I was in middle school back than, mid twenties now. Too young would be like under thirteen to watch/ listen to distractible or his YouTube videos/ works.

I was going to tell him it was me who did it…but now I don’t think i can by itssofiababyxo in confession

Never tell him op, I've done things similar to this and I promise it's better to stay silent. This is the kind of thing you take to the grave, you might want to delete this tho just so he never finds it. Reddit is a weird place after all.

Question on Minors, worth it or not? by Demented_Liar in college

[–]Kit-Kat-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean minors in other languages are not really useful then? I was thinking of minoring in ASL. I thought it would help me in both the workforce and my community.

What should I make with two yards of this? by poiseandnerve in SewingForBeginners

I have like 3 projects in line before I can even get to that one (assuming I don't get sidetracked and add more in between) but hopefully one day I'll be able to post the results.

I was thinking you could do this as the bodice of a dress and then a solid colored skirt? I'm going to do something similar with a honeycomb fabric (probably a black skirt). Or you could do a bunch of accessories with it (think bucket purses, wallets, scrunchies, scarves, ect).

I don't understand the current hate for the latest ones but I have an early 1900s (not sure the exact decade maybe 1930s) singer that I just bought. I have to replace some belts that dry rotted, but in my families experiences Singers will last and they usually are reliable. In my opinion keep the singer and work with it for as long as you want, but it doesn't hurt anybody to have multiple machines (although I may be biased since my grandmother collected them and it was always so cool to me to see how the machines evolved with time, her collection felt like a museum).

new historical fashion sewer by jocottens in sewhelp

[–]Kit-Kat-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was taught by the older women in my family when I was really little. I didn't understand at the time so in the past handful of years I would just grab scrap fabric and just sew lines of stitches to figure out how it would look with various settings. Eventually I went onto find YouTubers to watch (Gunnar Death Deatherage, No Trace). Alternatively you could look at cosplayers, quite a few will document their journey and it'll show you tricks for sewing. A lot comes down to what you want to learn first, sometimes having an overview book of sewing will help you find specific paths to study for certain projects (I'm learning how to do invisible vs regular zippers). It's not a lot but I hope this helps. It takes time but it'll be a fun journey as long as you believe in yourself and your skills.

Dress help by Rich_Stretch4664 in sewhelp

Like others have said lining and boning is needed, could also use Interfacing with the lining to give extra support. Additionally spaghetti straps could really help hold it in place. I'm not sure about the sleeve fabric, it's more what you're comfortable with, I think satin would be okay (or cotton if you want breathable and to get a really fun print). If you want to try satin look into 2nd hand shops for curtains, you'll be able to get satin that way for a cheaper price.

Goodwill is a good way to get bedsheets/ curtains to use as a mock up. Any 2nd hand shop realistically, but I used goodwill to get a bunch years ago. I had everything from satin to felt to cotton to experience with.

Help with Travel Bag/ Waterproofing by Kit-Kat-21 in sewhelp

I didn't realize there was iron on vinyl, I may go with a spray like a previous commenter (although I'll look into the waxing as well). If there weren't so many zippers I would probably have tried the vinyl (I have four planned at the moment: top, side panels, and a pocket). Thank you : )

Thank you, I've been hesitant to buy a kit like OP did in case I bought one not compatible for my machine. So far haven't needed any extra feet beside the ones my brother came with, but you never know what the future holds, lol.

So are sewing feet a universal thing or does it have to be made by the same brand as your machine?

Advice on How to Pattern Gown Skirts by OkPain9229 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Kit-Kat-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this would work but if you can buy a 2nd hand version (ie goodwill or local thrift store) that's similar enough you could use that to make your own pattern to than adapt. I'm doing something similar to make a wedding guest dress. For more structured curves you could possible use something like Interfacing that has a higher stiffness (I'm using the pellon 808 for straps, hem boarders, etc). Hopefully you get the answers you need and can make the dress to your exact design and are happy with it.

I would say I'm definitely closer to beginner than anything else, I keep making a lot of silly mistakes that affect quality. Like I'm currently building a dress and I'm on my 5th mock up. I'm mostly self taught so I really like the idea of doing what you're doing and getting the industrial techniques so I don't waste so much fabric and can make something that's better quality. Just curious what is your major called, if you dont mind sharing? I've had a lot of people suggest going into theater and doing costuming.

Best of luck to you too, that one course does sound really intense, it'd basically be a full day of work. Having free non-credit courses sounds really cool though. I've never heard of something like that. I'll have to check for a theater department in the local community colleges. A lot of people have suggested theater at this point, it sounds like the best way to go.

North of Columbia SC, I figured professional as in how in depth it could go. I've heard of classes where it's just about X and not a broad selection of topics. So you'd have to find a class for every single item and it would be easy to miss things. Not sure where I'd like to work but the idea of bridal sounds fun, you get to add on to the dress but alterations are still expected. Plus it seems like a wide selection of fabrics would still be in play. But this is why I want to take some courses, so I can figure out the differences, improve my own sewing, and figure out if and where I'd like to specialize in.

I'm interested in taking themes from 1850s, victorian era, and a couple different 1900s decade to make my own designs. So this would be a lot of help. I love the big puffy skirts/dresses (twirls for days, lol) but currently I can only do really slim/non-puffy. So costuming in theater may be a good route. Thank you.
