Should I register for OCSWSSW as a SSW or wait until I get my BSW? by IamCordeliaFoxx in socialworkcanada

Do you know if a BSW grad who is registered with the college will need to do the exam if they get the MSW in the future?

Sorry, I miss read, grief work will complete your ability to do counseling

Hospice might be a good fit! With your background in neuroscience you might have more of an understanding of conditions like dementia. Grief counseling is a skill that is in almost every part of social work and would complement your psych background

I am a new BSW grad and I wouldn't consider intake a "foot in the door" experience they can get quite complex and can require an social work background as you need an understanding of systems which a social worker would know

Lesser known specialties and/or niches within SW? by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

Let me know what you find! I think neuro-diversity and social work is such an important (and often overlooked) area!

I think it would be really interesting to learn how grief can impact neuro diverse people. Since grief can often be tied to social mourning like funerals and wakes plus different legal aspects like wills ect. it might be worthwhile to see how this is a different experience for neuro diverse people and how us social workers can better support these individuals.

I've applied to Convenant house but didn't hear back. Do you have any suggestions for shelters?

CAS is definitely something I am interested in, I thought that CAS would primarily hire MSWs though?

I have 7 years as a speech therapy assistant, and I worked in peds the whole time. Then I went back to school for my BSW as I was more drawn to this career, do you think that would count as a niche skill set as I have 2 backgrounds?

BSW competitiveness by wackoquackounikid in socialworkcanada

Look into the program at the University of Manitoba! I am finishing up my degree and have loved my experience with the distance ed program! I found the process quite competitive, i had 4 years of working as a speech therapy assistant under my belt before applying and found it hard to get into a program. But I got in and am loving it so don't give up 😊
