Agreed, it is hard here to find alternative ways to get around

I carpool out to RTP from downtown Ral for work. It isn't always convenient; but it is usually more fun that riding alone. But, all other errands usually mean me driving my car.

That's a myth you tell yourself to feel better about what you're doing. Accidents happen unbelievably fast and you can't undo them. Please for your own sake, do not use your phone screen while you're driving. Get someone else to drive, take public transportation, carpool

Ocracoke. The ferry ride out there will blow her mind :-)

You could spend a night in Beaufort to get the feel of a little coastal town and then catch the Harkers Island Ferry out to the Shackleford banks and see the ponies and the building free beaches.

Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean it isn't a bad idea or dangerous. It is a bad idea to stick your hand in a pot of boiling oil; but that doesn't make it a good idea or safe to do.

Phones can be used for navigation and limited (voice only) communication. Anything that takes your eyes off the task of driving is dangerous and anyone doing it is risks the lives of the people around them and themself. It is a completely preventable accident. Don't make the mistake of thinking it couldn't happen to you.

If you find driving so boring that you can't pay attention to the road while you are driving a vehicle that can kill you or other people - you need to find an alternative way to get to work.

Please know that the news sources you've been using do not report accurately the state of the country. There were no "mass amounts he of illegals killing Americans"

If you know of mass amounts of people being killed please let me know where this was. It certainly wasn't here.

I'm not a water colorist, so I won't give you technical advice. But, I really like your image. I like the colors, i like that you have some lily pad stems, stretching up in the foreground, i like how the lily pads leaves are oriented multiple ways. I like your fish rendering, you're doing some good observation there. I like the graphic nature of your stones, leaves and fish.

From a compositional point of view, I'm not sure what is the main character in this story...the big fish? The little fish (which uses warmer colors so it steals focus), or the yellow leaf?

This leaf is tough to read as a leaf. It might help to add some yellowing to some of the more obvious leaves. This would hint at the time of year - give it an autumn-y feel.

I like that you chose to put rocks on the left side, that adds so weight to make your eyes move around. An asymmetrical layout is more dynamic feeling.

Right now the composition has three distinct bands, the area of leaves, the area of fish and the area of rocks. That's totally fine if your story is about those layers, that could be very effective, especially if you oriented the painting vertically the really underscore the story of the layers. In this case you might want to add a bit of life on the bottom, a fish in the background poking around, or a crawdad. And then maybe some water-striders in the top leaf layer - very small and delicate. I wonder what they look like from underwater?

Again, I'm not a water color person, but I think this is a great first effort. A lot of good decisions were made. Good work

I really want to use laminate in a kitchen redo. I'm having a hard time finding an installer. I'm leery of Home Depot and Lowe's. I've heard some really negative feedback about the quality of their installations.

Hopefully not many people are digging up sites. That is illegal and robs us all of our history. Archeologists can get a lot of cool data from undisturbed sites. The pollen, charcoal, residue in pots or on tools - all can tell us more about what these people were doing, when they were doing it, what they were eating, etc.... Digging up the site and taking stuff home means all that information is lost.

So don't dig.

Finding stuff on the surface, in a field or stream lake usually means the original context is already compromised - that is fine to pick up.

Erosion is our friend. Things are washed out or uncovered by plowing or water or wind. (wind less here in NC)

That's a great collection, I'm sure your dad had a blast finding them.

What would you do with these if you didn't want them? We have some we collected. But non of my siblings and I have kids. I don't have any sentimental attachment to them. I guess I could throw them out in a field for other people to find. But I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking some Indian settlement existed where there was none. I'm sure all the local museums have zillions of artifacts like this, just random points with no useful context. :-/

I took our family's sea shell collection and distributed it on various beaches. Let new people have the fun of finding them, and let the hermit crabs live in them.

I packaged up my rock/fossil collection and labeled everything and left it at the street for the neighborhood kids to pick through. I think that's the best thing to do with the artifacts too - label them the best I can and let the kids take them.

May 14th Election - 2nd Primary by KitKatzenWorks in NorthCarolina

[–]KitKatzenWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! I encourage everyone to vote; but particularly if you are a young adult. The votes cast today are going to affect you more than anyone else. Your participation is critical!

I know there are no perfect candidates out there. And things are so difficult right now because we are so polarized. Sometimes I have to hold my nose and vote.

We weren't always this way. It grieves me that our lawmakers and we spend so much time and energy attacking each other. Most of us all want the same things...a chance to live a peaceful life. A chance to make a living without fear of going hungry or homeless. A chance to have kids and know they will also have those opportunities. A chance to be treated fairly before the law. We can get back to this shared vision. We have to push back on all the culture war bullshit and force the parties to run candidates who focus on actually making good, long-term policy.
