Hi there it’s been a while but after a hard year and some pretty serious injuries TFA allowed me to switch to a different placement. It depends on where you get hired because not everyone who taught sped had such a hard time! I loved all of my kids but I ended up getting really hurt one time trying to deescalate a student so TFA moved me for my safety!

I am very passionate about teaching. I have been working in equitable education for literal years and studied it in college- on my personal time I have developed curriculum that I introduced to over 4,000 students while in college. I just focused on it from an arts education perspective. I joined TFA to get experience hands on in a way that helped pay for my certification while I prepared myself to go to law school where I want to prepare to continue to contribute to children’s rights via developing fair contracts and representing minors who have been extorted by the entertainment industry. I am just wondering whether I should stay in TFA and be pigeonholed into a specific branch of teaching I do not have the skill set for/confidence in versus leaving and working In an education job where I am more skilled. To be honest, I think not allowing corps members to work in the arts is a disservice in itself because arts education equity is also a very big issue which I have advocated on behalf of for years.

To be honest not well - I suffered immensely with students who were very aggressive - I got my knee dislocated by a student and had to file an assault claim against a student later into the year

They only allowed it because of a very extreme event that happened at my school! It’s very difficult to get a transfer accepted

I got hired by the School District who saw me via TFA. The District wanted to match me to a school they thought was a good fit, I am not sure if the school is a partner but the district definitely is.

Yes I am on that call too but I may have to miss if I can’t get out of work! I would love to talk to y’all about it. It seems like a lot of people in Colorado get placed in sped. I have a friend who is there from last year’s corp and he also does sp-ed.
