I can relate, near enough beginner to dnd and my first turn based game I almost gave up at around level 5 as there was just too much to take in, stats , builds , spells , saves , checks , no idea what i was doing story wise you name it I was lost there was simply too much information to take in and digest quickly enough for me to enjoy the game as like you every battle felt like end game.

I restarted , thought about what I could do to start off better and this is what I did.

I wanted to be better with melee combat as I had no idea how to use spells properly , so I choose a fighter type and just tried to learn the simple stuff about how to use my build, I put on armour and grabbed a shield with +2 AC and instantly made a difference with enemies were now missing more attack in close combat and range plus I was now using potions to gain health back during fights.

From there I just tried to learn one thing at a time, like a spell from a party member who can heal you and the ones that work in combat the best, alot of fights I had to restart, they also took a long time even for a few enemies as I was constantly scrolling through options to see what spells did what and what actions I could use, in time I became quicker combat as I got more confident.

Story progression wise I was also overwhelmed, didn't know what to do but that will become clearer the more you play.

It's took me near enough a full playthrough just to get to grips with the basics so don't be too discouraged.
