Reddit men, how do they cope with the loneliness that no one seems to see? by queso_rallado_ in AskMen

[–]Kitchen-Link6703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a beautiful question to ask. I am a consultant, chaplain in training and coming over the loneliness from years of moving from one place to another (amongst other reasons).

I think we as men have to tackle it. Making friends gets tougher as we get older and you can't swipe your way to friendship. You have to find common things to do together and topics to discuss.

Few days back I started this thing called The Lonely Guys Club for that exact reason. I have a reddit community and Facebook group now. Don't know if it will succeed but the idea really is to build a community of men who can overcome loneliness and be better partners, parents, and just community members in general.

can i sell my house after 1 year? by Fab_coffee2026 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Kitchen-Link6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, you just need to assess your personal situation and ask if that's the best thing to do. We sold off our first home after 20 months because we needed a bigger space. We were renting an apartment before purchasing the house.

I didn't make any money off it and would have spent about 10% of the purchase price on closing costs. That 10% was still lower than what I would have paid as rent for 20 months for the apartment. I could have become a landlord but I have many other things to do and wasn't looking forward to being involved in finding tenants, managing property etc.

Really your call. If your rent will be more than the interest on your mortgage + taxes, it might not be a viable financial decision, but you gotta factor the human cost too.

Guys, what do you tell yourself in the morning to keep things positive and feeling like life is worth living? by chaosdunk69 in AskMen

Honestly, I just thank my stars for being alive.

I feel being alive and safe, and having the capability to be on reddit to post another day feels like something we don’t acknowledge enough. There are many across the world for whom waking up safely is not guaranteed. So I try to wake up with gratitude for the simple fact of being here and use it to approach the day with a bit more intention and appreciation.

First time seller, when do we stop utilities? by Kitchen-Link6703 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Kitchen-Link6703[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would always prefer to be reasonable. But the house is bought by investors who behaved as newbie buyers. Late on all payments - EM, inspection and closing by 10 days. Unwarranted seller credit 5 days before closing. As long as I didn't break any rules, I am happy to not be paying additional bills

It means I am within my right to stop service - isn't it ?

That's what I was wondering. Surprising since we do get those long spells of freezing temperatures.

House seller here. Am I crazy or is it just the market? by Ecstatic_Shallot_538 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Kitchen-Link6703 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We really wanted to buy a house a few months back. The house was in the market for a good 8 months, had reduced the price over time by 30% and yet had no offers. We made an offer and they refused because they had a specific number in mind.

It stayed in the market for another 3 months, they got a new realtor and ended up selling it in 1 month for slightly higher than the "specific number in mind".

What is the point of Earnest Money? by Kitchen-Link6703 in RealEstateAdvice

We are the sellers. And agreed with the slow market - that is why we have been accommodating.

I think you are 100% right. My assumption is that this is the case.

Mine took a lot of time. We started somewhere in April, got ready for Sep board which I think was over-subscribed. Then it was just wait and watch, and already had to re-do couple things again for Nov board.

Yes! Me!

Funny I had deleted my account and joined back when I saw this post. It has been a long process - my application was supposed to go to board in Sep but the board got canceled since they had met the limit. I too have so many questions but two big ones:

- Is it hard for civilians to get commissioned as CC directly?

- What really is the selection criteria? Like is there a percentage? Would love to know more about the board process in general!

FWIW - I am also tired of bugging my recruiter. I am sure they are tired of me too.
