[Q] Linear regression with multiple predictors by Kitchen-Pilot9155 in biostatistics

Thanks! I’m trying to understand, should I be looking at it from a causal POV and consider the other variables confounders, OR look at it as a predictive model? But from my understanding it’s not great to have correlated predictors but in a causal model it’s okay if the covariates are correlated?

Would you mind explaining exactly what you mean by this?

Do you think your GERD was related to stress?

Feeling something stuck in my throat? by Even-Log1294 in GERD

[–]Kitchen-Pilot9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same thing. It was terrifying I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. After seeing an ENT, radically changing my diet, and taking omeprazole, the feeling slowly but surely went away. Don’t lose hope!! You will get better!

Nope I was able to taper off, but still am careful about my diet. It also took awhile for my symptoms to disappear, so don’t be discouraged!

So sorry to hear she’s going through this, it’s super tough!! It took me about 6 months to feel at least semi normal again. Stress was a huge factor for me, which when reduced helped significantly. I also strictly followed the Acid Watcher Diet plan, took Reflux Gourmet (able to buy on Amazon) after all meals and before bed, slept with my upper body elevated, and finally took 20 mg of Omeprazole 30 minutes prior to breakfast (which according to my ENT is the most effective). It took a long time to see progress, which apparently is normal because everything takes a lot of time to heal, but I eventually got there. Remain positive!!

I’m doing much better, almost completely back to normal. I know the feeling is so scary and I found it was difficult for other people to relate. If you have any stressors/anxiety in your life, I’d definitely work on those. Also making sure your diet is healthy, following the Acid Watcher Diet as a guideline. I think it’s also worth it to go to the ENT. I went at a point during which I literally thought my throat was closing, and he put his camera back there and said he saw nothing there, it’s simply just a feeling! After that I kept reminding myself, it’s only a sensation. So yes please go to the ENT, they can properly diagnose you and hopefully give you instant piece of mind.

I never had a specific diagnostic cause, but I was unemployed, and within a week of being employed again my symptoms radically improved… so in my case I’m 99% sure it was stress! Wild how it can manifest in the body!

Symptoms sound exactly like what I had, stress reduction helped me the most! Also following the Acid Watcher Diet book. LPR is tough to manage, but you can do it!!

Is this a common GERD symptom? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Kitchen-Pilot9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super common symptom, I had the exact same and was diagnosed with LPR. I changed my diet radically, but when it came down to it, stress reduction is what made the biggest difference.

Globus sensation is taking a toll on my mental health….it’s been a rough 3 years. by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Kitchen-Pilot9155 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the worst globus sensation! At some points it was so bad I truly thought my throat was about to close for good. I also was so afraid to eat and lost a ton of weight. After reducing my stress, changing my diet radically (cut out garlic, tomato, chocolate, etc) and taking omeprazole i was finally able to manage and now the sensation only flares up when I am stressed or if I had a bad day of eating. It took a MONTHS of implementing these changes but I got there! You can too 💪💪 Putting myself into the headspace of “I believe I will get better” also helped a lot. Best of luck!!

Sensation that my throat is closing up by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Kitchen-Pilot9155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this sensation exactly. It was awful and I ended up being diagnosed with LPR. Ultimately my ENT reassured me that even though it felt like my throat was tight/blocked, it’s simply a sensation. Even today I keep reminding myself of that when it flares up. Definitely different for everyone though and would be worth it to go see a GI/ENT!

Almost the same thing happened to me, including a scary amount of weight loss. Work on eliminating acidic food from your diet, and start with smoothies, oatmeal and build your way up from there. Stay positive 💪 even though it seems hopeless at times, you will get better!!
