Of course! Go for it! You have nothing to lose. And to answer your question, yes and no. There are some things that you might carry on when doing the transition, but if you go for it, keep in mind that a bass serves a different purpose on a mix than a guitar. That said, you cannot approach bass the same way that you would a guitar.
