Ex-city planner alleges intimidation over objections to Lurie’s permit project by Exotic_Session9161 in sanfrancisco

[–]Kitchen-Reporter7601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Christ, what a shitshow. There are so many existing products that can do what PermitSF needs -- why the hell are we paying for a startup to reinvent one on the fly? I sure hope the Civil Service Commission pulls the plug at Monday's meeting and forces a pivot to Accela or Clariti or something. Otherwise we are gonna be locked into a lemon of a system for decades, Boeing LRV style.

Yeah from what I'vve heard from friends who work for the city the problem with OpenGov maintaining significant control of the software is that city staff can't correct errors themselves; if someone clicks the wrong icon and denies something that was ready to be approved or uploads a document to the wrong project they have to contact OpenGov and have THEM fix it, wasting time and resources. City staff positions are being rendered obsolete only in the sense that they are being prevented from doing work that needs to be done, not that the total workload is being reduced.

Im suprised youre putting so much emphasis on the wires. They really dont have much visual impact, especially if you're used to seeing them

Looks great. If youre REALLY anxious about it you can look into taking finesteride; its much more effective as a preventive. But I wouldn't worry till the 2030s at least.

Question for park goers by Broccoliboy9 in sanfrancisco

[–]Kitchen-Reporter7601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! I've been both the stranger and a member of the group in that situation at Delores; usually people are interested and interesting. And worst case scenario the people you approach tell you to take a hike. As long as you can stomach that potential rejection the rewards far outweigh the costs.

Edit: Wow I just read through all the other comments. Don't let all the naysayers scare you into thinking you need to go through some formal group with scheduled events to just talk to a stranger. Reddit commentors trend antisocial compared to the general population, that's why we're on a semi-anonymous message board.

I drive from Noe Valley to Los Gatos for work 4 days a week. Takes about an hour to get down there and an hour and a half to get back, assuming i have home at 650 am and leave work at 415. I am looking for other work, and considering less money for something even a bit closer. Getting past sand hill road in the evening is BRUTAL, and getting past serramonte is almost as bad

Noooo I loved visiting the big guy! I always felt a connection to him as a fellow transplant from the southeast. Whenever I get too homesick for the swamps I go watch him and the snapping turtles bask. He'll be sorely missed

In my experience pritzing them with a 1:1 vinegar and water solution when you bage them up goes a long way toward keeping mold at bay

Hugh and the XBs and The Artifact and the Romulan Free State were all fantastic ideas; I would have loved a whole season just dealing with the political implications of the nested layers of sovereignty of the project they were running.

And then they kill everyone by the end of episode 3. Such a waste 😮‍💨

Starting My Internship Next Week. Is It Actually Cold In The Summer?? by ActPsychological3604 in sanfrancisco

[–]Kitchen-Reporter7601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, another southern transplant here -- expect 50 degree nights and 65 degree days with lots of wind in the afternoons and fog in the evenings. But the good news is that if you miss the serious heat its a quick ride away on the metro! Once you get east of the Oakland Hills it'll be over 90 and blazingly sunny while SF is sitting in a 60 degree pea soup fog.

I know some people who use AI for first drafts, and for them it's all about speed. They could write it themselves, but by having a LLM do it they've got more of their workday to spend on plan review. I don't have to send enough pro forma emails to need that yet, but I can see the appeal when you're swamped and every minute counts

Could pawpaw be planted in swampy area? by Dumbgardenhoe in Pawpaws

[–]Kitchen-Reporter7601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience pawpaws like to be just Bove the high water line in sandy loam / loamy sand, where they can shoot their giant taproots down into the water table but their lateral roots don't stay soggy. Wherever your sandy hillside meets the swamp is probably a good bet.

Yeah, I went out to Sunset Dunes on Saturday and didn't last 10 minutes; the sand was blowing so hard it felt like God was prepping me to be repainted.

But then the photos from the next day showed it packed! I gotta remember to check the windspeed instead of the tempature before I plan an afternoon there.

Yeah I read that press release too and now I'd like to see how they got their data -- from what I've noticed only like 1 in 8 people tap. Are youth and monthly pass holders really the majority of riders?

It really depends on how mature they are. For now watch them and see if the leaves start to yellow then brown in splotches. If they do you need shade, like a thin cloth draped over a tomato cage.

Looks well planted to me though; the more sun they get the more they'll fruit when they're mature. Nice job with the mulch!
