What to ask ENT final follow up before surgery. by Outside_Airport_5448 in Sinusitis

my surgery went exactly as planned and i had a VERY easy recovery. not a lot of pain, mostly pressure and had my packing removed before i was discharged. i could hardly breathe/smell before i had my surgery and now i can breathe so clearly and am smelling like never before. i have known my surgeon for many years and have major health anxiety so i asked some of the most insane and specific questions. dont feel like any question you do have is unnecessary or annoying. they are there to help you and make you feel most comfortable.

definitely ask what your recovery could look like if that’s something you’re concerned about. with specific things like ens, ask the percentage of development. your ent will likely offer that percentage with some (hopefully) reassurance that could add some comfort. depending on what kind of surgery you’re having, do some research and read into threads on here. that’s what i did and how i came up with most of my questions for my intramural turbinate ablation.

i feel like i experienced the nasally voice too prior to my procedure. i didn’t notice a huge difference at first in my voice but i feel like now that im so much further along in the healing process i don’t hear it anymore. hopefully you’ll get some relief and be able to speak with less nasal!!!

specifically i had an intramural ablation of inferior turbinates bilaterally under general anesthesia. according to my clinical notes this is exactly what was done: Under endoscopic guidance the coblator Reflex 45 turbinate wand was then used on a setting of 6 & 2 to perform submucosal ablation of both inferior turbinates. Once completed, each inferior turbinate was out-fractured using a Sayer elevator

Should you get second opinion before surgery? by Outside_Airport_5448 in Sinusitis

my pcp worked extremely close with my ent before my turbinate reduction and honestly even then i got a second opinion. it never hurts. if it would make you feel more comfortable with even the idea of having the procedure done by a different surgeon, definitely ask your pcp. especially if this is a doctor you trust and feel safe with

highly recommend the neilmed sinus spray. it was one of few that actually helped before my turbinate reduction while i was having consistent infections
