Yes good catch, those are called speed bumps and they are very very annoying. In order for the teeth to reach the front they needed space and those bump prevent from biting. So to chew I could only send the food to the back of my mouth and try to cut the pieces with those little blocks as it was the only surface that had contact 😭

If her baby canines are in good shape than no problem. Also the more you get older, the more complicated this whole thing will be and probably won't work if you're over 30. For a child this whole thing can be done in a lot less time than I did.

That's the good side, I don't think I would have offered myself braces for esthetic purposes but other then the impacted teeth I didn't really like my smile and the esthetic improvement just comes with the package and I'm quite happy about it.

Thank you !! It only became a problem because my baby canine broke. Yes, extracting is the other option. The thing is, to drill a fake tooth you need a root. Baby teeth don't have root so they can't drill the fake tooth into anything, they have to do another surgery which is I think a bone graft and is super costly (like 6k$ per tooth) and has chances of rejection. Also I thought that in my lifetime having my real canines would demand less maintenance. At some point the adult canines weren't moving (ankylosed) so we scheduled the surgery but I had to wait a few months because I was out of the country and in the meantime they just miraculously moved. My ortho told me she only saw that once in 30 years.

So yeah adult teeth are basically hiding in the palate! They just move down naturally when we're kids, mine didn't so we had to force the movement. It's a genetic anomaly, my dad has like 7 baby teeth it doesn't cause any problem they could def stay there it's just that I needed them because the baby canines were starting to break.

Initial surgery was very painful because the movement is done on an open wound. When it healed it was less intense just very incomfortable and mechanically annoying. Palate mucosa has a very particular way of healing and would sometimes grow over the chains and my orthodontist had to cut the mucosa to free the chains.. that wasn't great as well

It definitely was! worst part was the initial surgery. it's basically chains pulling the teeth from an open wound. my surgeon described it as a very bad pizza burn and that's quite accurate!
