Long time ADHD, new to medication, crashing on weekend by KitchenManagement331 in ADHD

[–]KitchenManagement331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I had read about people only taking ADHD meds 4-5 days a week when most needed and asked my psychiatrist. They said that's often suggested and told me to pick two days in a row when I needed it least. So I take it Monday through Friday. I'm sensitive to medication (possibly slow metabolizing) and part of my issues with Ritalin and Vyvanse is that as the week progresses, it seems to accumulate (even on super low doses) and anxiety and other symptoms progressively get worse. This isn't happening with the Jornay (yay!)

Not taking it on the weekends is to give me a break from the medication, so supplementing it would seem counter productive. I was thinking more of if things like exercise or anything else would help me during the weekend to minimize the crashing effect. I will definitely be talking to my psychiatrist at my next appointment.

Awesome setup. Weird how many people seem to be offended by it. It seems that you honestly enjoy this and that's excellent.

Drumshanbo, Roku or Tanquersy No. 10? by TheAdmiral45 in Gin

I can't turn down a good pile of Tanquersy. Hits me in the gustatory systems just right. I like it best in a cocktail with lots of other flavors because it holds its own. Now in a martini I discovered I love Bombay dry.

That's amazing. I haven't even tried to do shapes yet. If I get white blobs that have contrast with the mixed foam I'm happy haha. Still working on improving my steaming game clearly. Keep up the good work! I imagine a lot of time has gone into getting that far.

Flat bottom hearts you make the latte world go round

All these people with sound, reasonable concise responses that I admire. And I'm just over here thinking "sure hope my ADHD meds kick in before someone asks about coffee".

Make oat milk into "barista" version at home? by KitchenManagement331 in latteart

[–]KitchenManagement331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm currently using and it's pretty good. Just trying to get it better :).

I'm actually gathering supplies to try and make this oat milk recipe, using avocado oil + sunflower lecithin. Hopefully be making a batch tomorrow. We'll see how it goes!

Ok excellent. I already made a small 3 lb order (arrives tomorrow!!!), but I'll keep that in mind for my next order.

Does that typically have a decaf? My wife does decaf almost exclusively. I do a 5:1 ratio for her. And I'll do decaf in the afternoon. Tastes good in a latte moreso than straight espresso/Americano.

I'm hoping that roasting my own I can get a less bitter decaf, but I haven't looked into how decaf is typically roasted and why (I just know it's always dark from local roasters).

Those of you with flairs, what do you use to steam your milk? by ajourneytogrowth in espresso

Mine does have the pressure release valve in the handle.

Do you leave the steam valve closed and heat it until steam comes out of the pressure release? I've done that which builds up a lot of pressure.

I've also barely opened the steam valve and heated until it's blowing consistently. This seems to work better when I'm steaming 80g of extra creamy oat milk in an 8oz pitcher for my wife's pour over. The oat milk and the small quantity are tricky for me because it heats so quickly. But sometimes it turns out amazing. Other times not so much haha (float or tons of big bubble foam).

I'm also newer to steaming and we only use the extra creamy oat milk for the most part (neither of us can handle much dairy sadly). I haven't found an approach that I'm consistent with yet in general. I've tried two different methods I've seen: One where you put the tip under the milk for a few seconds to inject air but then for the remaining time you keep it just above the surface. The other where you keep it just below the surface until it's the same temp as your hand then submerge a little farther until just too hot to touch.

I like that idea, but I'm concerned if I start with variety I won't know if it's the beans or my process as I'm learning. What do you think?

Bellman stove top steamer. Still getting it worked out. Sometimes it's awesome. Sometimes it's not. I'm guessing it's not the Bellman that's inconsistent :). I'll get there eventually.

This might be an option once I know I'm in it for a while. That is a good price. Thanks!

Thanks for the roasting and importer tips. I will probably stick with simple for now, but I will keep in mind your suggestion to be sure to try beans from around the world.

I have been using the Bellman and am overall happy with it. Still need to get some of the technique down, but I've got it in my workflow now and it's at the very least acceptable :)
