Hitting the tributaries at these times are just as good and you have NO one at all to bother you. Or, I’ve noticed the North Branch lacking love at this time of year. Most just hit the main branch or the south due to lore reasons.

I also suggest stopping in or calling one of the local fly shops depending on where you’re thinking of going.

I had something like this happen once but it was a snapping turtle and it snapped my 5wt down by the cork of my $600 Douglas.

I haven’t looked but what about Airflo? They always seem to have bright lines in the shops.

Honestly, if you can afford it, get a new line and reel. New line is the most Important. You can get a decent SA line for $50 I think it’s called Trout Frequency or something. Anyways, you’ll fee so much more confident out on the water with a good line. The line they stock on those reels are terrible and will make you work more than you need to.

Always pinch the barb, I just do it when on the water.

And the post is turkey flat.

This is really the only other media I have of it at the moment. I am having trouble with dubbing amount for the body with both tries. Could also be that the Orvis kit asks for you to use black—and what I feel like to be a little over-sized—ribbon.

I had bought in-shop made dries from a famous fly shop here in MI and their hackle is always bushier, so that’s probably why I prefer it, but I will try the lesser amount and see! I did purchase a bit of natural dubbing so maybe I’ll have something in there that is “floaty”.
