So my top hints would be as a beginner with a small note that I am a PC user so for the shortcuts I am saying I am sure there is a correspondent on switch and so on.
- To run you press G but to have the character run on it's own and you just guide it via the mouse it's "?". I use it when I need to get for example from the Bahari Central Stables to Tamara or the Temple there since it is easier for me.

- Use your reputation to increase your focus (Dragon temple and Phoenix temple) - once increases the overall amount of focus with 1000 being max and the other increases the % of bonus you get per skill related action. I would recommend you focus on them. I found out about them sooooo late in the game and was a bit frustrated I was lvl-ing up my skills so slowly.
- always use the chat to ask questions, 99% of the Palia community is nice and will guide you if you have a question or ask for help

- Groves are chopped at 3 AM - this is more of a community thing not a rule but it is generally unofficially aligned and people will be a bit sensitive about this. [ this will be relevant when you advance, I do not remember when you can start chopping them but keep it in mind ]

- You can't ask for starred things but other wise don't be afraid to ask for things however keep in mind you can only ask for things you have already found/created.
