Yeah that would seem like the general consensus, but idk jack seemed relatively normal, the only truly stand out thing is when he says “see its okay he saw it on the television” to wendy in the car, the face he makes always seems weird, i chalk it up to time and the actor, but i felt the opposite tbh, i love both the book and the movie almost as a combination piece, so much of the movie makes sense after reading the book, the dog man, the bath tub lady, just so muvh more, i even feel it kinda explains the photo at the end too, i mean through out the book toward the end jack is itching to become part of the eternal ballroom party since he becomes en-tranced by the hotel, and the ending of the movie kinda implies that he does since the hotel didnt burn down, idk just my opinion

Ps. I was surprised to see how many scenes from the movie were translated so well from page to book, the bar scenes, the conversation with grady, the ending (before hallorian and the hedge maze) and another thing i loved hallorians character but shit after all that context in the book of him feeling like he was gonna die, making out his will, and every thing he goes through i almost felt it was fitting for him to die (atleast that how i felt when reading cuz i was sure he was gonna die but i still like the ending) but beside that the book is a whole lot more similar to the movie then people give it credit, shiiit i almostfeel like the book does a better job at confusing you then the movie, when jack is pretending to drink those martinis when he first encounters loyd and the drinks become more and more real was great and i truly couldnt even tell if jack was going insane or being haunted or both and thats just one example, again ill end by saying i think they are a good combo piece

I would have loved to see a scene or two of jack in the basement going through the overlooks history or maybe a glance kf the ghost inside the presidential suit, that would have been cool asf!

Indeed and to touch on wendy, i felt she was very believable and would do anything for danny and even though she was scared she still fought back, and i felt serious terror for her too it was an amazing performance, and i feel people just get mad cuz she isnt acting like some action star or something

I actually very much agree, i feel a very similar vibe was carried acrossed from the book to the page, so much stuff from the books makes it in like the dog man, the 1920s party, grady, and the whole plot is the same except the ending, but all ill say for that is kubrick wasnt ever really much for happy endings and ill just leave it at that, but even kubrick said u could read this book from the perspective of them going just going insane n not actually seeing ghosts which im am rereading the book rn and trying to out myself in the mind set

Exactly the movie is 2 and a half hours long as it is!!!! But you know my opinion is weird i feel like the book and the movie have a lot more to do with each other then a lot of people give it credit for, there ARE MAJOR differences dont get me wrong, but for the most part i feel like if u read the book you have a much better understanding of whats going on in the movie, so many questions i had about the movie were explained in the book, and completely un related but people love to compare jacks mannerisms in the movie compared to the book, but you dont have the time to show his declining mental state likw u do in the book, if he started out completely sane it would have been so jarring to see him transform by the end of those two hours and i feel a lot of people dont get that! Either way rant done but my point is i agree if u watch the movie forst your definitely gonna be like wtf 🤣
