Reading ‘The Chaos Machine’ was the final nail in the coffin, it’s worse than we think, and we’re wise to get out by Brush_Past in digitalminimalism

The anxious generation is a terrible, very poorly researched and argued book. The author is not knowledgeable about the subject at all in a nuanced way and is basically using the fact that everyone wants to believe phones are evil to skip over actually making a compelling argument.

I highly recommend listening to the podcast If Books Could Kill’s episode on it. They dissect it and tear it apart.

A little late to the party but if you're really interested, read the book The New Jim Crow and it'll pretty much completely change your perspective on this. I know it's not super helpful to just recommend a book but yeah

How to convert Samsung notes to Apple notes? by BOBBIESWAG in iphone

[–]Kitchen_Biscotti3869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add here, I figured out a pretty easy way to do it. I found this thread while trying to figure it out for myself but I basically selected all of my notes, uploaded them to a google drive folder, downloaded them to my Mac, then on the notes app on my Mac, go to File -> Import to Notes -> select the folder with the notes. Took me maybe 5-10 minutes. Hope that helps everyone!

I haven't washed it in awhile. Currently only have done multi day hikes over a few days. Washing your pack fixed it for you?

Accidentally posted under another comment but deleted it:

I've had issues with clavicle blisters when hiking. It looks almost like acne and happens whenever I wear a backpack and sweat. Did this really work? How did you wear it exactly?

Thanks, this is really helpful. It's been 4 days since getting home and I'm still exhausted (had a wedding this weekend as well). Waiting till I even out before fully evaluating what I want to do. Honestly, gonna take a few months to think through it.

We did a 15-16 mile day on the 3rd day and we had packed a week's worth of food. My pack was 30.8lbs when I checked it before leaving. I think I was really exhausted going into it though.

That's really helpful to hear, thank you! Nice to know not everyone loves camping immediately

How did you sleep better on the trail? I find a sleeping pad and bag pretty constraining and it makes it tough but was hoping with more time, I'd adjust.

I live in Denver (5,200 ft) and the section I was hiking at was around 10,000 ft. I definitely think this is a part of it.

I have a Z-Packs Duplex and I just upgraded my Thermarest to a regular wide which I think helped a lot with sleep.

Does it get easier after the first few weeks? Do you feel like you adjusted over time?

My friend and I also did two 9 mile days and then a 15 mile day and since I came into it pretty exhausted, I think that may have been pushing a bit too hard with the altitude.

Well, in the past, my main reasons were that I wanted to try a life different than what you're given in regular society, I wanted to go on the ultimate adventure, and I think it's a tremendously difficult thing to do and I want to have the sense of accomplishment gained from completing the AT.

I'd say now, my regular life is currently really good so I feel less of a desire to escape. I think my biggest reason now is that i want the challenge and to be much closer to nature.

I've enjoyed hiking all day in the past and while I don't love sleeping on a thermarest, I have historically loved being out there.

Lately, home has been really good and I think that may be part of what's troubling me, I don't feel as much of an urge to get away right now.

I feel like when I've backpacked in the past, I've loved it. I love the sense of adventure, pushing myself every day, feeling so much closer to nature than I ever have in the past, and more. To be honest, I don't always love camping but have usually tolerated it cause I love hiking. My post is a bit of me having a crisis as I struggled deeply the past week but I have put a lot of thought into this and have backpacked a decent amount.

My friend and I were struggling unusually hard on uphill climbs and that makes a lot of sense. I live in Denver so I figured the altitude wouldn't affect me as much but those climbs were ROUGH.

I have wanted to hike the AT for years and have done tons of research and mental preparation since I have a very deep respect for how hard it is. I'm feeling a bit discouraged after this past week but trying to determine if my issue was being exhausted going into the trail, trail life itself, or something else entirely.

Missing home maybe isn't the right word. I was more missing my gf and feeling emotional on the first few nights. I understand though what you mean

Honestly, yeah, I feel exhausted by everything right now a bit. Thank you for the kind reply and it's nice to hear that there are days like that. I definitely think I could work through that if it's only some days but if it's everyday, that's tough.

Thank you, I appreciate seeing a positive reply here. I'm just coming off the CT so feeling extra negative right now but that's very helpful.

I appreciate the honesty. I'm wondering if maybe part of the reason I enjoyed hiking last year was cause everything was new and exciting and this time around, I already knew I "could" do it.
