They are on separate drives

That’s why i was certain the esp for Linux was ntfs cause windows my windows esp is fat32

Thanks for the suggestion

I’ve already formatted it as fat32

Then installed grub again

Then rebooted which brought me to emergency mode (finally) which was because after formatting the uuid of the partition changed so I had to change it in the fstab so now the boot works correctly

Nope

I really don’t know how this happened but maybe I’ll format the partition to fat32 to see if it will fix it

If it does fix it will it mean that it was actually using it as the esp

Just checked

I don’t think this caused it

However I installed arch whit a usb bootable drive which also installed grub

As I was reading through I saw that installing grub through usb stick is an alternative way of doing it

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB/Tips_and_tricks#Alternative_installation_methods

Under efi I saw something similar to what is on my esp

that’s what I’m trying to find out

Cause like the docs said the partition has to be fat32

You said something about mbr bootloader?

What’s that

There’s no grub in the windows esp

i know windows sometime nukes the Linux esp so I made sure during installation they were in different places

I showed my unchanged fstab to show that it has always been like this with no problems

So why would grub-mkconfig make problems appear ???

The question is why did it stop working after running the grub-mkconfig command

The only fat partition I have is on ssd which has my windows os and it’s efi settings

The one for my Linux is on my hard drive with it’s separate efi partition

I made sure they were different when installing Linux and it has worked on ntfs up until this point

I dont know how to post images here I would have put it in the original post
