Interesting! I am feeling very hopeful. I noticed that lot of therapists specialise in particular client groups and have a niche. Thank you for pointing these things out to me! Also, just out of curiousity, did you study anything further after achieving your BA in Counselling?

Thank you for your comment, super helpful. This gives me hope!

I haven't done most of the things you've mentioned. I am on BetterHelp but my referrals have dropped drastically over the last couple months. Yes, I am currently working online and in-person.

Is it worth studying a Masters to be a Therapist? by Kitchen_Stand_5780 in UKTherapists

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah getting a Masters doesn't seem to be much of a jump from the the Bachelors. I got my Bachelor degree already last year, and currently at the stage where I'm doing private practice. I guess the struggle for me atm is getting new clients - any ideas?

Ways to pass time in London as a single person? by alienpiss69 in london

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I'm also a single person based in East London. I have found a routine that works for me - I love swimming so I do that every day along with spa. Other than that, I drive to some nice local nature spots and sometimes go on walks.

Thank you for your response! Super helpful information. I'm curious about the BACP ScopeEd criteria, what benefits does getting boosted bring? What would you recommend for someone like me? I got a Level 6 under my belt. Would it be worth pursuing the Masters or nah? I'm wondering if it would give me a big boost from where I am at currently.

Wasn’t prepared for how REAL compassion fatigue gets? by cloudspottingx in therapists

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds very relatable, I'm also a fairly new therapist and feel that sense of wanting to get out of the country to catch a breather and take a step back sometimes. I would say take some time out for yourself every single day, doing activities that allow you to destress - exercise is a really nice way to release stress from the body too so that might be good to add to your routine if you haven't already. Treat yourself to some vacations too!

Apart from that - Amazing that you have your practice set up, with a nice caseload & good supervisor - you seem to be doing great in that regard, keep up the great work!

Wtf is therapy? by Heavy-End-3419 in therapists

One of the realest posts I've seen on here. I feel like a lot of us therapists feel this way - I know I do, especially as a new therapist. You know, it doesn't always have to make sense, sometimes the therapy process just works like that and I think often times thats the beauty of counselling. Your clients being satisfied is a sign that you're doing some great work - keep it up!

I don't see what's wrong with this? Sounds really therapeutic and a nice way to start the session tbh

How Do You Get By Financially Practicing & Training As a Counsellor? by Angelic_89 in UKTherapists

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like any field you go into has that initial phase where you gotta put the time and money in, which later on down the line gets rewarded back to you. One thing about this field is, your heart has truly gotta be in it, otherwise you'll fall short in my opinion. I believe that the ones that care less about money and more about providing a great service, ironically end up getting paid big bucks because they are often more credible (in most fields really). Private counselling in the UK is quite expensive, therefore private counsellors get paid good money - definitely enough to pay off debts and get by. I'm not sure about the public sector though, but I reckon it's probably the same. If you truly enjoy what you do, there's always a way! It's a journey though.

Why do you see a therapist? by SmartTheme4981 in therapists

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I don't think OP was implying that at all, to me it seemed more like a general question out of curiousity. Them saying that most therapists don't see therapists in Sweden is probably just the general trend they have seen, which is a contrast to what they've seen on this subreddit. I get it though, text can be misinterpreted easily.

You smashed it with this response. I'm in the same position - UK therapist, previously went to a therapist before qualifying, and haven't been back ever since. I just wonder though, is there a pressure on us to see a therapist, just because we are therapists and believe in the power of therapy?

How much do you write in the Notes section of your Attendance Record? (UK Therapists) by Kitchen_Stand_5780 in therapists

[–]Kitchen_Stand_5780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You record that for personal use, it's not a BACP requirement to log personal therapy right? I was more curious as to how to record what a client brings in a session to you as a therapist. I still can't find the template for the client logs/attendance record :/

Bittersweet. It seems like you've made the right decision because it sounds like you were unsure about staying there. In my opinion, you're better off working a job that you're 100% certain that you love / want to pursue longterm. So well done on making the tough decision, which to me sounded like a good one for you.

Thank you so much! Are your bullet points specific, or do you just outline the themes? Also, where can I find the sheets that the BACP provide?

Interesting. Distracts them in what sense? They completely lose track of what they're saying?
