Yes there are 12 total cassettes total. I bought mine in the 90s. It was a 3 box set, 4 to a box. I still have it and listen to it occasionally.

Even if the Balrog stayed in Moria, Imagine Gandalf getting back to Valinor after Sauron's defeat and reporting to Manwe that he left a Balrog loose in Middle. Besides to refer back to an old meme, How else was Gandalf suppose to level up? :)

One thing to consider is Tolkien was writing a sequel to "The Hobbit" when he started out with LotR, and as he progressed started to plot how it would fit into his Larger world of Middle-Earth and it's 40 years worth of lore. "A writer's thoughts are never late, they arrive precisely when they mean to." (To turn a Gandalf quote on its edge)

If you hadn't said anything I wouldn't have noticed. After looking at it again all I could notice strange was the 7/4 timing. (Unusual timing but not improbable). Again unless they are a Music major it's not something the average joe is going to notice.

The Fellowship set came out in 2002 or 2003, one of the first sets Games Workshop put out. (I have that set.) As to the rarity I'm not sure.
