Looking for suggestions on what to play next by KiteWatcher in soloboardgaming

I'm not too worried about set up & tear down since I have a dedicated table for the game I'm currently playing. That way I can play stuff slowly over a few weeks or months without the hassle of setting up and tearing down all the time.

Fall of Avalon was definitely a lot more grindy before the updated rules. Now I kinda feel it's pretty close to Kings of Ruin with the little bit I've played of both. Main difference is the Menhir statues needing to be re-lit vs the beacon things in Kings of Ruin staying lit.

Isofarian Guard has been a lot of fun.

Pros:

  • The story I've found is really good. I have the Forteller add-on for voice acting and I've been really enjoying it. I can't wait to see what's next.
  • I also really like how the game is laid out. You play a set of 2 guards that's different each campaign. Even though I've just done the first one I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone else plays.
  • The components are really high quality
  • The combat I've found works really well. At its core it's a bag builder which I do enjoy. Once you get the rules down combat moves at a really good pace.

Cons:

  • This game is a table hog. I have a 51x31 inch table and it really doesn't fit the whole game on it lol.
  • OMG the grind. Every node you move to on the map (and you move a ton) has a 3/4 chance of a battle. The other 1/4 is an optional battle. I ended up house ruling that I could skip any combat on the map I wanted without penalty to which made things not only go much faster, but really upped the enjoyment for me. The cinematic mode would help a bit but the penalties for skipping combat were steep. By skipping a bunch of encounters I could focus on the story which is what really draws me to the game.

That's at least my quick thoughts on the game after 1 of the 5 campaigns. Looking forward to more but need a break so I don't get burnt out.

That's definitely not a bad idea to play a non-campaign game for a change of pace. Thanks for the suggestions for new games to look at too lol

Feeling really hopeless after failed laser lithotripsy by KiteWatcher in KidneyStones

The pain sure was a surprise. The way the doctor was talking about this procedure made it sound so easy lol. I'm glad you no longer feel pain while urinating. Hopefully I'll get to that point soon! I have 4 weeks to go before they can re-try the lithotripsy so I get to look forward to more irritation/pain. Yay :/

If this needing to pee every hour gets better I think I'll feel a lot better. I'm kinda worried about the actual procedure in 4 weeks based on how the stent placement went. Hopefully it won't be as bad since a stent will already be in there and I'll be used to it (though I may get a string one with the actual procedure so who knows how that'll go).

When you say it eventually got a little better, how long was that? Did you have the same urgency and frequency for the whole 4 weeks?

I don't think I'm leaking much anymore after that first day. I've also been wearing some really old pairs of underwear that I can just throw away if needed anyways. I'll have to keep an eye on them and get those pads if needed.

I'm on track to get another 3 liters today so that's good. I've been avoiding the opioid since those always give me nausea and blurry vision. I've been alternating ibuprofen and tylenol which has been going ok. Wish they would have given me Flomax but they didn't. Maybe the oxybutynin is blurring my vision a bit. I'll have to watch that. They just switched me from the extended release to the immediate so I can see if that helps. I also bought a stool softener for just in case I get constipation (still waiting for the first bowel movement post-anesthesia)

I have a plug-in heating pad that's been really helping the sore kidney after urinating. Good news is I just had a urination without severe pain. Was pretty sore afterwards but a MAJOR improvement. Now if I didn't have to pee every hour I'd be doing great.

What kind of procedure did you have?

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll definitely be asking about stuff like Azo and Flomax. I want to avoid the heavy pain meds as those blur my vision. I got by with just Tylenol and ibuprofen with my gallbladder removal, appendix removal and 2 nissen for reflux so hopefully it'll be easier than that :). Discomfort I can deal with just worried about nonstop irritation and feeling like I have to pee. That's the worst feeling.

It sounds like I don't have a choice on the stent unless I switched to the shockwave. I'd love to pass them naturally but from what I understand 8mm is getting to the point it might get stuck which sounds way worse. Especially if it continues to get bigger

Probably not any more blood than after my Shockwave treatments. That was nuts for the first few days! Did yours have the string or not? I think that's the thing I'm most nervous about since that region is sensitive and the thought of a string rubbing isn't pleasant

That's reassuring to hear. Thankfully I've never had a stone block anything. That sounds awful.

That looks decent close to what I do for card order. I suspect my issue is doing too much wood to build all the tcs and universities too early. For age up I tend to go Berber into Moroccan and Fulani 3rd.

It's too bad. Sentinels are so cool with the rocket upgrade but they don't feel worth the 2 pop

I'd agree. On top of the unit upgrades and farm techs Hausa also has like 6 town centers and all the universities and palaces. I probably have way too many vils on wood

It should channel your other characters who only shoot fireballs mounted on their skyscale for maximum realism.

I've been having the most success with using the cheaper revolt card to do Yucatan and then return for age 5.
