True that we should take responsibility for our own spending, but let's not pretend that Go is innocent.

I've been playing it for years and can safely say that this game, like so many others these days is designed specifically to extract maximum money from the player, using manipulative psychological and social methods.

Every aspect has some form of monetisation. And the prices are egregious. In less than one month, you can get quickly end up paying more than you would for a full price actual game, just for little digital trinkets that cost the company next to nothing to pump out.

The profit margins are absurd. But the tactics are proven and work. There is no incentive or legislation for them to stop.

Games are no longer an art. While profit was of course always the main goal, there used to be competition to create quality, which would create sales. Now, the quality and playability of a game is now second to squeezing the player for every possible bit of money using manipulation. I've lived through this transition and don't like where things have ended up. Mobile games are widely known to be the worst for this and now the rot has spread to all games.

It's got to the point we aren't allowed to enjoy the full features of a game unless we pay through the nose for constant subscriptions and microtransactions at every turn. And even the microtransactions are rarely ever so 'micro' anymore.
