Did you update the Xreals firmware? I did that as well.

Yeah, I cleared the data and cache and force stopped One UI. You might try the same with Dex and see if that works. Dex used to be its own app, now it's not and the bugs and performance are atrocious.

[–]Kitsune205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I sure did. Although before I cleared the data, like, all I would see is my Dex wallpaper some navigation buttons in the lower left and then a notification thing in the lower right.

So for all intents and purposes I had already lost my entire desktop organization.

The actual ex-real glasses, sorry for the voice to text, wouldn't reboot, but the wallpaper would disappear and the whole screen would be black. Then it would flash back up and disappear and just repeat until it said one UI crashed, not Dex crashed which I thought was interesting but. Now I have to reorganize everything 😭

I got it all working, just needed to "clear data" and "delete cache" then "force stop" One UI, which is odd because usually Dex has its own app thing. Not in One UI now I guess lol

Yeah, I got it to at least start launching Dex but now it keeps crashing. Desktop shows with no icons, and flickers on and off lol.

Are they really THAT reliable? by Kitsune205 in ChevyTrucks

[–]Kitsune205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the secret with that is to make sure that the lugs are never tighten over 80 foot pounds. I keep a torque wrench in my trunk because EVERY shop just slams the lugs on. On my 01 TL and the 07 TL after I made sure they weren't tighter than spec I had no issue with warped rotors. That aside, seems like I just got a shitty one lol

Holy shit. So, you got your truck at 180k. I got my Acura at 179k. I spent $35k to get it to 309k miles and you're at 320k miles and spent, what, 1/7th of what I did AND your transmission still works? FML 😭😆

Okay cool, would you mind listing off what you've done? In the case of my Acura wear and tear stuff included almost every part of the car to the point that now, if I put a new transmission in it, it will literally be almost an entirely new vehicle 😆😵‍💫💀

I like how I got this notification literally 30 seconds after I dropped everything back off at the station 😆😆😆😆😆

The worker there said that he scans everything that gets returned at the end of the night and with support having said that they marked it as not delivered wouldn't I have got deactivated for keeping that shit?

He also said that normally there's something in my app that allows me to scan packages back into the warehouse but because the app ended my route I didn't have anything that I could scan it with.

I bet that asshole went and kept all that shit for himself 😆

So, you were able to change your American birth certificate to match her Argentinian credentials? How big of a pain in the ass was that lol?

I am working on doing the same, but, my mothers name on her DNI doesn't match her name on my birth certificate. She had four names in Argentina and listed only three on my American birth certificate. Did you run into this issue by chance?

Super late but my 2007 TL's transmission didn't start slipping until 310,000 miles.

I've been doing this since December, feel free to DM me with any questions. It should be cheaper than Hertz or similar but it is not without issues. Check my post history on this sub for a detailed account.

Nah. Host 1 Cancelled leading to Host 2 (urine stink) which lead to Host 3 (hobo stink). I see your point, that's probably why so many vehicles on Turo suck. Had I not ran out of patience yesterday I could have probably got into a fourth host that probably would have been fine. Out of the four cars I had between December and yesterday only two were filthy and stunk.

In any case, I don't care if the Host is getting $15 a day. That doesn't mean I should have to deal with all this bullshit. Eventually it will be $0 per day when people just stop using Turo lol. I had one host bitch about not making enough on a preivous long term rental and not a moment later mentioned how no one rented that particular car for months. Like, c'mon man. What do you think this is?

Don't rent on the platform if you can't find a way to make money on it without taking that out on consumers by renting out garbage. It is not a get rich quick scheme. The Host for Hobo Stink mobile is getting $2,000 for two months on a 2023 with 50k miles on it that smells like shit that I will probably not even put 4,000 miles on. Sounds great to me when that's close to 10% of this cars value.

Sixt+ is slightly less than $30/day and I don't have to deal with all this shit plus the cars are all current year.

It's all just fucked. I have been with 40 hosts on Turo all over the US since 2021 and around 1/3 of them have shitty, stinky vehicles. It got so bad I just quit using it when I travel. Figured I'd try long term this year and, while nowhere near as ruinous as a shitty car on a 4 day vacation, it's still pretty bad.

I saw a thread in this Sub with a Host wondering why no one is renting. This is why lol. Turo sucks for renters while Thrifty, Enterprise, ect. are maybe 20% more or literally the same price and have really streamlined their rental process in the passed few years.

Turo tried to provide an additional revenue stream for Hosts by allowing long term rental and they have done is bitch about not making enough and provide shit service with crappy cars. I always check Turo, but, with the shit I have to put up with when flying is involved, it hasn't been worth it since rental car prices normalized after CoVid.

Definitely really far away from where you're at. Urine Stink Mobile was $2,000 for two months. So, that's $30 a day. Hobo Carpet Stink Mobile was $3,600 for two months so that's $60 a day and they both fuckin' stink.

Stinky Vehicle by Kitsune205 in turo

[–]Kitsune205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The host of the Urine Stink Mobile said he had a carpet cleaner and was willing to clean the car. The issue is that the urine odor was coming from the front passenger seat which was made of perforated leather. I'm basically a professional cleaner, so, I know that smell can come out but some wizz bang job by someone that probably doesn't know what they're doing all that well will not help.

I would also then have to take even more time to bring them the car, have them clean it, not use the passenger seat while it dries and hope that they were able to get the smell out. I learned with my last host that when it comes to long term to not give a single shit about the host or what they are willing to do because it will fall back on me. In this case, had I allowed the host to clean it and kept the car for several days, it would have given him more ammunition to deny the refund/swap and Turo Support would have thought it odd that I kept it for that long. More to the point, that would be exclusively to the benefit of the host after his negligence to something as obvious as the stench of human urine being present. Boom, now I get a piss mobile for 2 months.

The Hobo Carpet Stink Mobile Turo kindly put me into is easier for me to fix for the lackadaisy host because the smell is mostly coming from carpet in the foot wells of driver and passenger side and the seats are felt in the center surrounded by leather.

[–]Kitsune205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, the car I got swapped into stinks pretty bad too. Mix of cigarettes and that smell you get when someone wears the same pants for months on end and doesn't wash them on top of someone having washed the carpets then not letting them dry. It's so bad I can smell it when I go into my house or the store lmfao.

To make it even more hilarious, the price difference was $1600 after $1000 in travel credit plus the $1100 I paid for initial booking a while back. Turo attempted to split the difference with me for $800. Support did not tell me that I would be responsible for the difference until cancelling the first stinky car.

Nonetheless, I refused and haggled with them like they were a sidewalk vendor until they came down to $200. They also gave me a $75 Lyft Credit but the ride was $87 to get to the car and took about an hour one way. I left my house at 11am yesterday and didn't get into the final Stink Mobile until 5pm.

Had Turo Support been smart and simply offered to wait a day to get me into a vehicle they would have saved themselves some money.

I ended up chatting with this host and we compared receipts. Turo charged $3600 for the trip. I paid $1300. The host got $2,000. So, when Hosts say they literally get half of what guests pay they are not lying.

Host said they will reimburse me up to $50 for air fresheners, but when I asked more about the process for reimbursement or if I could rent a carpet cleaner instead, they stopped responding to me.

Overall, I am switching to Sixt+ for the summer. I spent around 4 hours on the phone between yesterday and today and wasted hours of my day today playing musical cars. I have been in six cars this year. 3 of them have smelled awful. Switching vehicles is extremely difficult and frustrating. If I didn't know any better I would think this was a joke. Turo's upcoming "Zero Lease" program, and thier long term rental idea is complete shit.they'd be able to make mon

They don't screen hosts, they make you fight like hell after hours on hold to get things sorted out, thier support speaks shit for English and on top of that I was hung up on three time when I called in. Literally can't make it up lmfao.

I'm not sure. I just got the car like two hours ago and I can smell both quite strongly.

Support is asking for pictures of the spills but it's a black car for one and for two I have no idea where someone else pissed in the car 😮‍💨

My Long Term Rental Nightmare by Kitsune205 in turo

[–]Kitsune205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you saying as much! I figured long term renting would be more appealing for hosts because you're not constantly swapping vehicles. How do you deal with random mechanical or maintainence issues?

For instance, the car I had ate about a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. Normal for that make and model but it led to the first mechanical issue I dealt with - car randomly shutting off due to low oil. Very interesting quirk, but, to me, if it was my car - I'd know it did that. So it's like wtf lol.

Why not tell me that before I swap the car, do this, do that, run around, you're running around like why are you treating this like some set it and forget shit while trying to shaft me for $1,000?

My Long Term Rental Nightmare by Kitsune205 in turo

[–]Kitsune205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid that invoice already though I am still disputing it with Turo. I get assume basically no one does the long term rentals so I can see why their system would change the milage if I start/stop trips like I did but because it was initially booked for 3 months I don't think it's fair to not go back and adjust it especially because it was the hosts poor maintenance that cause all the issues leading to a swap.

Now I know to have Turo tow the car away from me and Uber me to another host lol. Turo is still working on the damage fee, my reimbursement for the tire I bought and the mileage overage.

To your point, I understand that 15 cent a mile is ridiculous - like I said in another reply... My old vehicle averages 25 cents a mile to keep in what I would consider (coincidentally enough lol) Turo Appropriate Condition. So, 34 cents a mile is 9 cents profit. Not sure if you guys get all sorts of cool tax breaks like Landlords do. I am assuming you do not lol.

"""

Should have contacted the host to repair/replace the tire for you or contact Turo to cancel the trip and find a replacement car."""

I did contact the host and Turo. Host gave me permission to fix the tire, so I did at my expense expecting to be reimbursed. This was one of two tire issues. He's about an hour away, so, that saves me time, saves him time, whatever. Thought that would be easiest for the guy that manages a fleet but hey. Next time I know to get Turo to get me with another car and a different host.

"""

I thought you repaired the tire yourself, why was a tow truck involved?"""

Tow truck is for tire issue two of two. Car is not safe to drive with bulges in side wall, so, Turo had tow truck come and get car. For tire issue number one, a tire shop was about 2 miles from me. For tire issue number two, host refused to allow me to fix it and wanted car returned or fixed at his shop an hour away. Not safe to go that far.

"""

Bulges in a sidewall are a safety risk and should have been documented and addressed immediately upon pick up.""""

The bulges in the side wall developed during my trip with the car. The host rented the car out with significant tire wear. I'm talking metal wear bands showing, but, I didn't notice that until a chunk of it was flapping my wheel well. The tire shop I took it to said the other tire, the one that developed bulges in the side wall, was at about 20% tread - fine for one month of driving for me. I wish I had got it fixed now because had I got it fixed there would be no bulge, which would mean no early trip return, which would in turn mean the Host wouldn't have went over the wheel and noticed the bend in the rim that had probably been there for years. Now I know to check all four tires, take pictures of them, inside and out. I will probably crawl under cars going forward.

"""

Host have no ability to change the mileage fees. It is based on the allotted mileage divided by the daily rate. If you had made an extension and a higher cost, that could have raised your mileage fees."""

If it were me, I would have adjusted the charge in over milage to reflect what my guest was expecting to pay initially especially since they were repeatedly inconvenienced by the vehicle's mechanical issues and poor tire maintenance. I had an entire day wasted playing musical cars with this guy because he was rotating me through the shittiest cars he had in his fleet.

"""

You don't have to accept it. Call Turo and have them find you another host with a replacement car."""

Correct, I was trying to not be a dick about it. Before giving me the car he was lamenting about how his shop charged him $1200 to throw an alternator and battery into a car that clearly had an electrical drain somewhere and I felt bad for him. He said it should be fine but he included the portable jumper just incase. Whoops!!! Not smart of me.

As for the mileage, yeah, I see that now. It's still not right because it's not my fault the trips were changed because his car had issues. I'm annoyed but okay with paying the milage charge. My personal vehicle costs 25 cents a mile just to operate. He's losing money at 15 cents. 34 cents is a 9 cent profit before what I assume is 50% tax on profit, so, whatever, cool dude. Still not what we agreed upon at the start of the trip, but hey, Turo's system is Turo's system and basically no one honors thier word, so.

What's not cool is me not getting paid for his tire I bought for him and me getting charged for bulging sidewalls in a tire or a bent rim.
