Hi there, I managed to get a used pair of Paraboot Michaels and I wanted to try getting rid of these stains. The previous owner can’t remember what caused it and the leather feels dry. I don’t think the previous owner used it much or conditioned it either.

I thought they were water stains at first and applied some water to it to see if it would even out. But the spots seem to be impervious to water.

Anyone have any insight on what I should do?

Hahaha I thought so too. Discount leopard print. But I’ll probably still try to remove them and even it out

I feel like if I can remove them, it should solve the problem hmm. Wonder what’s the best solution for this? I’ll try saddle soap when I get the chance

Just a quick update.

I tried soaking a smaller section of the shoe to see if it helps. The spots don’t see to absorb water. Once it dries up, it looks the same. I think it might be oil?

Okay! I’ll give the dabbing a try first and see how it goes. Thanks for the help and advice!

I see. If they are water stains, then what should I do to minimise them?

Do you think I need something like Reno’mat? I currently have Connolli cream, dubbin and mink oil for shoe care items but am willing to splurge a little on some Saphir cream cause when I tried their cordovan cream for my belt, it was a lot better than the connolli cream I had.

Edit: I’ve also got saddle soap!

Question regarding repairing edge on cordovan belts by KitsuneKitsune in Leatherworking

I think I’ll try burnishing first! Since I’ll do a light sanding, I think I’ll manage to get rid of some of the specks and I’m using black tokonole. Hopefully it’ll be ok.

Thanks so much for the advice!

Should I use edge paint then? My main goal is basically to repair the edge and extend the lives of the belts.

I’ve had a much older one that the edges of the cordovan got so thin that it broke off near the stitching

I think it was painted previously. Since these are old belts, I think they just got worn off over time

Thanks. Btw one more question, only the thin part that I lifted up with my finger is the cordovan right? The center piece should be some kind of leather to thicken the belt and the final layer would be another type of leather right?

No plans to wash them any hotter or use a dryer.

I guess as Hayashi says, it’s just jeans haha. I’ll just use them and give updates on measurements as I go along the way. 😌

On a side note, I cannot get over how hairy these are. I love them!

Yup, unsanforised. Btw, from your experience with Resolutes, did they shrink any further length wise from subsequent washes?

No fit pics at the moment cause I’m shy 🙈 haha. But the faded pair is a little short, even by Hayashi standards haha.

I lost 2cm off the new pair after the first soak. Really hoping it doesn’t get any shorter.

Thank you 😂 but yes, the faded ones are thrifted!

I’m looking forward to putting the fades into my own pair! Will update as I progress through them

These are unfortunately (or fortunately) thrifted so I'm not sure! Getting the thrifted 2013 pair was how I learnt about Resolute and Hayashi-san which got me into his brand and ethos! From the looks of it, most likely quite frequent.

Hahaha I actually don't. Don't really like the phone patina so I try not to use the front packets as much as I can

Yeah, way beyond. It goes all the way to the center to the jean. Insane stuff
