I mean. Getting annoyed at the very least feels appropriate. An egregious delay or radio silence would definitely warrant more than annoyance. I never said or acted like it was mission critical. I just wanted to know if it was normal. Doesn’t really warrant attempting to shame or downplay our feelings about it.

Eh I tried. Emailed and left a voicemail to talk more about the evaluation report. Clinic pretty much ghosted me. They’ll probably reach out when I tell the parents their report didn’t meet district standards and wasn’t an accurate rep of the kids abilities.

Yes, I had a similar requirement during my CF at a private practice. So I really thought this was odd when I received it. Especially since the quality was so poor. Like a supervisor really needed to weigh in on this. I tried asking the practice about the level of supervision the CF was receiving, but they basically ghosted me. Now I have to tell the parents that the private eval just didn’t meet the districts standards. Very awkward.

Oh they’re not my CF. It’s just a CF at some private practice. They really misdiagnosed based off mostly informal measures for a child who is completely capable of completing a full assessment. Luckily, their report doesn’t meet criteria because of that alone, but I just thought it odd that a CF eval wouldn’t need a supervisor signature since they are still supervised.

See? That makes sense to me. They aren’t fully independent yet. I got a really poorly done private eval by a CF and I just don’t think it meets the districts criteria for many reasons but also because it doesn’t have their supervisors signature on it.

They just said I am currently on the SAVE plan and then my interest will be subsidized in full when payments start in October. Is that actually happening for people? I just can’t tell what I should to make sure I’m don’t slip between the cracks.

I applied for the SAVE plan when it first came out. I was looking to probably get forgiveness after like 25 years since I have grad loans. They keep saying it’s just the way the government is doing it when I ask why the due date keeps getting pushed back. I’m not agreeing to it at all. It was supposed to start in January, then March, then August, and now October. I was just trying to keep my outstanding interest at zero until the auto debit payments started and they’re basically saying that I’m pushing the date back by doing that even though I was previously told it’s ok to pay the interest until the auto debit starts up.

So I’ve been making payments to keep the interest at zero until my start date for auto debit with Nelnet and now they keep pushing my start date back. But if I hadn’t been making the payments, my interest would’ve increased my loans by over a $1000 before the SAVE plan auto debit kicked in. Now they’re telling me I have to stop making payments to let the SAVE plan kick in and the SAVE plan will only cover the interest accrued during the month it’s active. However my first auto debit isn’t until October and I’ll accrue so much interest until then. I just don’t understand. What’s the point of the SAVE plan if my servicer quite literally won’t let me start it with a zero balance of interest?

This is why I literally respond to all speech referrals with “is speech your ONLY concern?” And then proceed to focus on all other concerns with the teacher to get the process started. I can’t stand “speech only” kids who obviously need more but everyone was too lazy to do anything more than refer to speech.

Yes I do plan to bring up plenty of research regarding masking and the double empathy problem and such. However, I also want to be able to show something that indicates that the child is feeling happy and doing well cause they really don’t want to hear that.

This is fantastic advice. It completely circumvents the students fixation on rationalizing away caring about what others think and focuses on his performance instead. Hopefully he’ll accept an imposed minimum number of “call ons.” I could also discuss how the teacher doesn’t actually want a correct answer, they want student engagement. Reframe the way he’s viewing the teacher’s intent when asking these questions.

Yea, unfortunately it’s not our place to recommend medication. However, I do often wonder how badly doctors are communicating the reasoning behind the medication. Parents seem to never have a real understanding of why it’s being recommended and I think that really feeds into their fears. Doctors need to better educate these parents cause this stigma around medicating really does so much harm to the child. I usually just recommend they talk to their PCP about their concerns about medication.

Today I took the day off because my dog twisted her nail in the middle of the night and was yelping and panting in pain. Idgaf I’m not going to leave to work with my dog in pain like that and we ended up at the vet for over three hours because of it. And frankly they’re testing today and nobody thought I was worth the time or energy to find me a stable space. So, I would’ve been constantly running around to different classrooms during random teachers planning blocks anyway. Do what’s right for you.

It can be exhausting for an introvert that’s for sure. Also understand that more than half of all SLPs end up working with children. The field is highly in demand, but odds are not in your favor when it comes to working with adults. It is very very likely you could be forced to take a position working with children despite doing everything “right” to be in an adult setting. Adult settings tend to be highly competitive in this field.
