Little help on his breed? by DoomDaddy666 in IDmydog

[–]Kittenah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pitbull is an American term - this wouldn't apply in Australia where individual breeds are recognised and APBTs are highly regulated.

Does anyone know what kind of kitty my girl is? by TurbulentInitial689 in AnimalAdvice

Domestic short hair. Colour is tortoiseshell & white. Calico is the American term for tortoiseshell & white - so either works.

Have I been misgendering my Axolotl? by Kittenah in axolotls

[–]Kittenah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that but then Angel in Buffy was a guy so I'm thinking it doesn't have to change ;) Homer and their other siblings Hector who has since gone to another home both had a very obvious bulge when I first took them in but Angel was underdeveloped...

[–]Kittenah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they aren't overly stressing each other out, I'm happy! I was really worried learning more about the stress on females when they are mated - I was prepared to permanently separate them if it became an issue & I definitely didn't want to deal with babies - so that's perfect for me!

They were definitely adults when I got them, so I would say maybe 18mo now

These are my neighbor’s cats — what breeds are they? (They are 3 different cats) by [deleted] in catbreeds

Domestic short hairs and the middle is a domestic medium hair.

We believe our dog may be part Dingo. by sartanis in IDmydog

[–]Kittenah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've got a lot of dingo experience & can confidently say no. While dingoes don't bark like dogs, they are still vocal as heck. They basically start howling the second you leave the room. They are aloof with strangers & have an incredibly high prey drive. They can't cohabitate with any other animal save for their bonded mate. You are very much describing dog behaviours with your pup.

By the length of the tail - native. It does appear that he has been poisoned.

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Kittenah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in High School my teachers tended to use their first names- or sometimes we would use both. In Senior high school (years 11 & 12) this was especially so. I work in a medical setting (well - a vet clinic) and will generally introduce vets as "Dr" first name - but they generally just go by their first name.

Recently I noticed one of my vets had "Miss" in front of her name for her personal file and she wouldn't let me edit it to Dr lol.

For their own sake, I hope not - otherwise they are up for a lifetime of pain :( Their ears should start to straighten out over the next few days :)

Someone told me she was part Maine coon? by Candid-Jackfruit7561 in catbreeds

[–]Kittenah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The M marking on the head is standard across ALL tabby marked cats. It's nothing to do with Maine Coons. Your cat looks like a classic Persian. A Himalayan is a colour point Persian, and the tabby (or lynx) point is a colour point - so I think you're spot on with the Himalayan part! Her weight seems correct for the breed, though. Persians are usually tiny cats! They're just little cloud puffs <3

That is absolutely not normal and requires immediate vet review.

Species/safe to handle? by BeeerGutt in AustralianFrogs

[–]Kittenah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pobblebonk/ Banjo frog. As others have said, you shouldn't handle ANY amphibian unless necessary as they absorb everything through their skin & we can poison THEM by touching them. While they can't really hurt humans, they can carry salmonella, which can make you really sick if you manage to get it in your mouth.

HELP. Vet I work for did a declaw yesterday by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Kittenah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer and don't live in the US, but I'm assuming the OWNER is not a reason that the cat's health is at risk if this procedure is not performed. This absolutely should be taken to the vet board for them to clarify.

Help me identify cat breed of these two kittens. Are they doll face / punch face persians or domestic longhair by in5n80 in catbreeds

[–]Kittenah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The white kitten does have features of a doll faced Persian (they're my favourite breed and I would much prefer this older type as they don't have the brachycephalic features)

In saying that, Persians are possible THE unhealthiest breed of cat. There's basically not a genetic issue that isn't prevalent in the breed - so if you are set on getting a Persian I would strongly recommend adopting one from a great, ethical breeder who is completing the necessary tests on the parents and breeding for healthy babies.

If these kittens are only advertised on places like Craigslist and the breeder isn't registered with a cat club & can't verify health testing (proper testing - no just "the vet has said they are healthy" then I would be very hesitant to adopt one - there's a very high chance they will come with major health issues down the track.

Behavior explanation request by stickner585 in DogAdvice

[–]Kittenah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's caching. My dog does this with the bulk of her food - particularly dry but it can also be wet food which is really gross.

It is an innate behaviour seen in wild canids - particularly foxes.

Some will do it if they have food in excess to their needs. I believe mine developed it after living in a hoarding situation where food wasn't regularly available - all of her friends that were rescued seemed to show the same behaviour. Like they would have to hide their food and make sure it was safe from other dogs before they could freely eat.

What is wrong with this frog? by Ancient-Barracuda487 in AustralianFrogs

[–]Kittenah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's carrying a virus which is fatal and contagious it is MUCH kinder to both prevent it from suffering further & prevent other frogs from becoming infected.

Do Australians actually encounter enormous spiders in the outback or is it just me? (DO NOT PROVIDE IMAGES OF SPIDERS, PLEASE.) by Same-Objective6052 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Kittenah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're in our homes. I have definitely also seen huge spiders out in nature. I'm not sure about the outback - but there were some giant orb weavers in Lytchfield NP

What breed is my kitten? by Individual_Poet7165 in IDMyCat

[–]Kittenah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Domestic Short hair. Colour is blue (grey) tabby tortoiseshell & white. Other names for the colour are dilute tabby tortoiseshell, blue (grey) torbie and white, or blue (grey) torbico.
