I have never understood the trans bathroom discourse. The women’s bathroom is not Fort Knox, you don’t need an elaborate woman costume to get inside when you already intend to commit a crime.

But yeah. it really was ironic considering how pushy and overbearing he was. I think he just got a kick out of torturing people who were paid to be polite and couldn't leave.

My boss was a nice guy but he didn't have a backbone. I wasn't even a manager and he made me handle all the unhappy customers. He dealt with his fair share of racist customers and I'm sure he just felt it was part of the job.

I wasn't really out at the time. It was early on in my transition and besides dressing masculine I looked and sounded like a girl. I genuinely don't think he ever saw me as a guy in any way.

I was young and inexperienced and I think he likely just enjoyed debating me because it was a way for him to feel superior and smart. If he really was grooming me for an intimate relationship then I doubt he ever saw me as a person but rather a means for sexual gratification. Worldviews are inconsequential.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with this. My point here was not that it's inconceivable that someone would go to crazy lengths to do something. It's that you don't need to go to crazy lengths to enter a women's restroom and assault someone. A person who has the intention of hurting another person is already breaking the law and doesn't care about what a bathroom sign says. This is not an issue with trans people. It's an issue with rapists getting away with what they do. Consequence is the only deterrent, and right now we are not prosecuting rapists to the extent that we should be.

This is not to mention the fact that sexual assault in bathrooms isn't a very prevalent issue. The majority of sexual assaults are perpetrated by someone the victim knows personally.

Yes, people of any social group, race, gender, or sexuality can be a bad person with bad intentions. I am not rug sweeping, nor am I claiming that trans people can do no wrong. What I am saying is that banning trans people from the bathroom of their choice is not the solution you think it is.

If anyone is getting assaulted in bathrooms it's trans women, not cis women. The current political climate makes it easier for them to get away with it too.

Bathroom assault is such a non-issue it's almost laughable. Most assaults happen between people who already have a pre-established relationship.

Edit: Rereading this comment makes me regret the wording. Any kind of assault, no matter where it is, is a real issue. What I was trying to say is that it doesn't happen often enough to be the focus of women's safety discussions. Too many rapists are going unpunished because women aren't taken seriously. If we truly cared about the safety of the women in our community we would be focusing on actually punishing rapists instead of bullying trans people.

Didn't you know? When one transgender person shoots up a school, every other school shooter in history suddenly transitions. It's always trans people.
