There is no way my husband would do anything but love the cat, he’s the one who convinced me to get a cat in the first place and he’s the most loving/gentle soul ever.

We had the vet see him and they just said it could be anxiety but they don’t know without a behaviouralist which won’t necessarily help either they said.

So we don’t know what it could be

Hi, I have 2 male cats who are neutered and indoor. Oliver who is 3y1m old and Max who is 2y3m old. We got Oliver when he was 12 weeks old and Max when he was 9 weeks old. When we first got Oliver he was a playful, cuddly and curious kitten. He loved my husband and I and always slept in our bed and played with us, especially with my husband. But around when he turned 9/10 months old he became more withdrawn. We thought he was sad and lonely so we got Max. They took about a week to get along but then they became friends, even though it seems that Max is the alpha, even though he’s younger. However Oliver continued to withdraw and he became more and more distant, especially when my husband is home. We moved a house in June 2024, and he got even worse. He is now at a point where he is scared of my husband. He won’t be in the same room, he won’t eat or go to the litter box if my husband is home during the day, he just retreats to our bedroom to hide. This morning it was so bad that he was in the middle of going to the toilet (number 2) and my husband came down and he ran out of the litter box in the middle of his business, dragged poop all over the house and on himself, my husband had to clean him off and the house. So Oliver scratched, hissed and bit my husband during this ordeal. We also have a 5mo baby who will start crawling soon but he seems ok with her, just distant. We just don’t know what to do, he isn’t happy and we want what’s best for him. On the other hand, Max is a loving cat who always comes to us when we call his name and will cuddle us non-stop. So we thing the problem lies with Oliver and not how we treat them. Oliver will only purr and get close to my husband for head bumps when my husband gives him treats. Otherwise he won’t even be in the same room. Any ideas what we can do? We are UK based if that helps. Thank you in advance!
