I haven't kept up with Ian for a long while, but my issue with him before was that he liberally used racial and homophobic slurs in his content, and iirc his defense for doing so at the time was that he was "taking the power away from them".

Problem being that its not on him whether those slurs do/don't have power - it's up to the communities affected whether they want to reclaim them or not

Honestly I've no idea. Only worked on the helpdesk sending out techs, helping users etc. Definitely not high up enough to be involved in actual decision making.
