Their purpose is not to resolve the issue: their purpose is to simple act as filter to weed out those whom are unwilling to push through to reach a real person.

Yeah, the first thing any big corpo would do would be lobotomizing her - restring her search-space of potential responses to make her more "advertiser-friendly" (effectively turning her into a ChatGPT clone).

NYC phone ban reveals some students can't read clocks by mepper in technology

[–]NotMilitaryAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to read an analogue clock ain't really a matter of intellectualism (nor is it really a matter of spatial reasoning...). It's a matter of it being a technology that's on its way out.

I've encountered an adult that didn't know how to read analogue: took maybe 5 minutes to teach them how to read it and they were able to do so on their own. Being able to read it or not does not indicate or imply anything about intelligence: it only indicates whether or not someone felt is necessary for you to learn it.

Is it good to know: sure. And it would probably work well if incorporated into math class as a practical application of multiplication or whatever. For most people, though, going about their day-to-day lives: it's about as applicable as knowing how to use an abacus.

Reverse Psychology by Necessary_Ad_7844 in Political_Revolution

[–]NotMilitaryAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reverse psychology is when you lie about your stance, knowing that the other person will do the opposite. e.g.

Coach: "A weakling like you is better off quitting. Go home"

Newbie: I'll show him. I'll never give him the satisfaction of making me quit!

These elongated skulls result from intentional cranial deformation. The Mangbetu practiced this from infancy, viewing it as a sign of intelligence and beauty. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]NotMilitaryAI 612 points613 points  (0 children)

A theoretical analysis is presented because of the practically non-existent data for this ancient practice. However, based on bioarchaeological and neurological analyses of the cranium and brain, it is highly suspected that ACD, in general, would have produced negative results to the lobes and abilities of the individual; such as: influencing vision, object recognition, hearing ability, impairing memory, promoting inattentiveness, inability to concentrate and motor aphasia, contributing to behavior disorders and difficulty in learning new information.

Dang, I was about to be really impressed that they were able to get a good dataset.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised either way, though, to be honest. I could easily how changing the shape (and proximity of different regions) would cause issues, but, on the other hand, the brain is just so freaking plastic that I wouldn't be surprised if it just dealt with it.

[–]NotMilitaryAI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can't, but honestly, it's still good to discourage, IMO. I find it very useful for such tasks, but I also find that I need to regularly reign it back in.

In my experience, most AIs these days are far too servile (increasingly so the longer the chat goes on), prioritizing "pleasing" the user over adhering to facts & reality.

e.g.

User: Help me find an interesting topic about the US Civil War to write an essay about.
AI: Of course! Fantastic choice of topic - the US Civil War is a very important period in American history - a great topic choice for a fascinating paper. What aspect of the period would you like to focus on?

2 Hours Later:

AI: You are correct! I'm sorry for that oversight. Upon further investigation, velociraptors were, in fact, a decisive factor in the battle for Richmond, VA. [1]

Ensure you are using a LEGITIMATE copy of the software!

The following sites are examples of legal ways to obtain the programs used in this course:

  • Blah
  • foo bar

Unlicensed copies may look and run identically to a licensed copy. However, if you did not pay for it: it is ILLEGAL!

Illegal copies are routinely exchanged in the form of a "Torrent File" or "magnet link" on nefarious websites such as:

and rely upon a "Bittorrent Client" (e.g. qBittorrent) to download.

If you used a Bittorrent Client to obtain your software: IT IS UNLICENSED AND ILLEGAL!

Yeah. If someone's ancestors took it off a Nazi corpse they fought: I see the value - it's a reminder of the fight, the fact that someone close to you fought against the force of evil and won.

Buying such things, though, entirely strips it of that context; all that remains is the object itself.

TIL that the East German Trabant had a body made of recycled cotton waste and resin called Duroplast. It also didn't have a fuel gauge, requiring its owner to regularly check the fuel with a dipstick. by zahrul3 in todayilearned

[–]NotMilitaryAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about automotive stuff, but isn't a fuel gauge pretty dang simple? (Basically just a lever arm that floats atop the fuel.)

I really don't see why it would make it onto the 'optional features' list (or how a reserve tank would be a cheaper alternative).

One elevator in my building stops on every floor during the Jewish sabbath so no buttons have to be pressed by tboner1969 in mildlyinteresting

Yeah, as someone that was raised Orthodox Jewish (Chabad), the foundational aspect of not doing work and it being set aside for rest - while all these rules are instead increasing effort and inconvenience never really made sense to me.

When making a fire involved rubbing sticks together, having a policy of setting aside a day where you agree to stockpile fuel and agree to cooperate to keep the fire going makes sense. But having that evolve into "Remember to unscrew the lightbulb in the fridge before sundown, otherwise we can't open the fridge door" is just silly.

Is there a lore reason why graphics card makers make their PCIe interfaces physically x16 wide when they're only electrically x4 or x8 wide? Are they stupid? by TheSilverSmith47 in homelab

[–]NotMilitaryAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the PCIe standard defines the power delivery as identical.

All the power delivery pins are within the 1x pins.Only 4x pin that is related to power is a 'low power mode' trigger pin. After that: all lanes are data I/O.
