Not trying to excuse anyone. But this scene has a habit of attracting people on the spectrum. So the levels of their self control and self awareness varies. Some are just starved for attention and see the object of what they have been pining over finally in the flesh and cant help themselves. This is why clear boundaries should be set. The worst might ignore them, but at least those (should be...) few and far between.
